I Built a Beast Empire After Reincarnation Chapter 26

Chapter 26 - 26 - The Pillars of a Kingdom

The dawn over Greystone was soft, golden, and laced with promise. After the tide, the scent of blood and ash had faded, replaced now by the aroma of bread, smelted iron, and hope. Lucas Carter stood at the highest tower of the castle, overlooking the transformed barony. What was once a small, trembling outpost was now a bustling, defiant hub of resistance and rebirth.

People filled the streets—survivors, refugees, hopeful builders of a new future. His decision to lead, to risk everything during the Tide, had inspired more than just safety—it had stirred loyalty. Greystone had gone from fortress to capital.

And now it needed order.

"We need structure," Lucas said to Elira, Kaela, and Reynard, who stood behind him on the tower balcony.

Reynard nodded, arms crossed. "We have the numbers. But not the organization."

"Then we change that. Today."

[System Prompt – Leadership Initiative Triggered]

City Management System: Activate?Yes / No

Lucas mentally selected 'Yes.' A new interface materialized before his eyes:

[City: Greystone]

Population: 1,247 Militia: 50

[Upgrade in Progress: 300 Enrolled]

City Guards: 0 [Forming]

Engineers: 0 [Recruited: 47]

Watchtowers: 4 [Planned: +8]

Wall Fortifications: Damaged (83%) [Repair Scheduled]

Sanitation: Poor [Planned Improvements]

Agriculture: Moderate (Insufficient)

Blacksmith Guild: Reestablishing (Led by Ilyra Blackforge)

Lucas let out a breath. "Time to delegate."

He summoned his lieutenants and held a public address in the castle square.

"To those who followed me through the storm, you have my eternal gratitude. But survival was just the first step. Now, we build. Not just a city—but a foundation for a kingdom. Today, you all become the first citizens of a new order."

He assigned roles:

Reynard: Overseer of Defense, in charge of city militia and guard training.

Kaela: Beastkin Commander, organizing beastkin squads and patrol groups.

Elira: Intelligence & Scout Master, managing long-range patrols, forest posts, and messenger hawks.

Ilyra Blackforge: Head of Craftsmanship and Smithing, reactivating the forges.

Engineers began plans to expand the inner city walls. Watchtower blueprints were laid out. Recruitment for guards opened in the plaza.

...

Inside the newly restored council chamber, a round table had been set up. Lucas sat at the head, with Reynard, Kaela, Elira, and Ilyra flanking him.

"Before we expand," Lucas began, "we stabilize."

Reynard placed a map of Elarion on the table. "We have rumors from the north—towns razed, nomads fleeing. The Tide left no survivors beyond our walls."

"Then we must become the beacon they can follow," Elira said.

Kaela grinned. "Or the shield they fight behind."

Ilyra spoke next. "We need resources. My smiths can reforge old tools, but iron, mana crystals, and rare alloys are in short supply."

Lucas nodded. "Let's send out a scout party. Locate mineable zones nearby."

"And the people?" Reynard asked.

Lucas looked to the window where the crowd still bustled with nervous energy. "Give them a purpose. They'll give us loyalty."

...

As the council concluded, Lucas walked the city himself. Children ran through alleys, soldiers trained in ranks, farmers bartered vegetables, and smiths hammered on new anvils. A sense of purpose had returned.

But it was then that he noticed a strange carriage rolling through the outer gate.

Elegant. Jet-black. Adorned with celestial silver markings.

The horses weren't normal—they shimmered, translucent like starlight.

Out stepped a man in midnight robes and a circlet on his brow. Eyes like polished obsidian. His aura—measured, but vast.

City guards immediately stepped forward. Lucas signaled them to stand down.

The traveler gave a deep, courteous bow. "I am Malrick. A humble merchant of rare goods and forbidden knowledge. Might I have a word with the Lord of Greystone?"

Lucas narrowed his gaze. "You've come far. What's your business here?"

"The winds whispered of a boy who stood against the Tide. I have a keen interest in such legends-in-the-making."

Elira and Kaela appeared behind Lucas, cautious.

"Who are you, really?" Kaela asked, eyes flashing.

Malrick smiled. "A friend. Or perhaps a test. That depends on your next decision."

Lucas stepped forward, his aura pressing out in defiance. "You have my attention. Speak."
