I Can Hear the Heart's Voice of Traditional Chinese Medicine Chapter 176

If it were a familiar doctor, Nurse Yang might have already retorted directly.

In the hospital, don't be fooled by thinking that nurses are at the bottom of the medical hierarchy; confronting doctors is a common occurrence, especially among some bold nurses who have made it a routine to challenge doctors.

In fact, nurses have a certain authority when it comes to intern doctors.

After all, whether an intern doctor gets assigned tasks sometimes really depends on the nurse's preferences.

Especially in the emergency room, for minor injuries and sutures, it's almost always the nurses arranging tasks, making them highly esteemed in the eyes of intern doctors.

Nurse Yang is well-known for her temperament at the Ninth Hospital. Confronting even Director Wu Liguo is a common sight.

If she were familiar with Lu Xuan, Nurse Yang would have already started challenging him.

Nevertheless, she inwardly criticized Lu Xuan for quite a while.

Nurse Yang took a deep breath, trying to maintain her composure: "Dr. Lu, this is the emergency hall; there are no facilities or medicines here."

"I know," Lu Xuan responded.

You know?

Nurse Yang was infuriated. You know and still proceed with treatment here? Are you messing with me?

She truly wanted to ask him what he was thinking or even crack open Dr. Lu's head to see what was inside that made him say such ignorant things.

Nurse Yang took another breath: "Dr. Lu, it would be better to move them to a treatment room. It's crowded and inconvenient here, isn't it?"

This time, Lu Xuan did not insist: "Then let's move these two patients to the same treatment room."

Only then did Nurse Yang remain silent; the two transported the patients to the treatment room. Nurse Yang was about to prepare the emergency equipment but was stopped by Lu Xuan.

"Nurse Yang, no need for that equipment; I wouldn't know how to use it anyway."

Nurse Yang seemed to hear the most unbelievable thing in the world. Her eyes widened like saucers: "Dr. Lu, please don't joke on such matters, okay? Wouldn't any doctor know a bit about using them?"

And the director said so, too. I can't believe that if Dr. Lu lacked any skills, the director would trust you with these two patients.

After speaking, she couldn't resist rolling her eyes at Lu Xuan.

Lu Xuan was not concerned about Nurse Yang's attitude. Some nurses were just like that, as he had encountered them at the District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The next moment, however, under Nurse Yang's faintly puzzled gaze, he pulled out his go-to emergency equipment—a needle box—from his coat.

"What's this?" Nurse Yang couldn't help asking.

"Acupuncture," Lu Xuan responded with a smile.

"Acupuncture?"

Hearing this, the words at the tip of Nurse Yang's tongue suddenly stopped. Her expression froze instantly, looking at Lu Xuan in disbelief: "Dr. Lu is… a practitioner of Chinese medicine?"

Lu Xuan looked at her with an expression saying, you just realized?

Snapping back to herself, Nurse Yang was speechless: "Dr. Lu, you could have said you're a practitioner of Chinese medicine earlier. I thought you were a Western doctor who didn't even know how to use equipment. So that's how it is, but Dr. Lu, it's not that we don't trust you, but this is carbon monoxide poisoning. Without medication or oxygen, can what you have in your hand really work?"

"How do you usually handle such situations here?" Lu Xuan asked.

"Provide oxygen—slight poisoning doesn't need it, but moderate poisoning does," Nurse Yang said, blinking.

"And if the symptoms cannot be alleviated after leaving the environment or providing oxygen, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is needed."

"Then follow your procedures and provide oxygen first."

Lu Xuan wasn't too knowledgeable in this area, but for carbon monoxide poisoning, providing oxygen was certainly harmless, since the poisoning was due to carbon monoxide causing insufficient oxygen supply in the body, leading to various symptoms.

"Alrighty."

Nurse Yang promptly arranged for oxygen for the two patients, then looked at Lu Xuan: "And then?"

Lu Xuan thought for a moment: "Leave the rest to me."

After speaking, Lu Xuan proceeded to check the pulse of the two patients, observing their conditions before starting the acupuncture.

For carbon monoxide poisoning, acupuncture generally employs the fine needle insertion method.

Main Acupoints: Touwei, Baihui, Fengchi, and Hegu.

Additional Acupoints: Zusanli, Neiguan.

Lu Xuan pinched the needle, looking at the Touwei acupoint, inserting the needle horizontally backward 0.5–1 inch, using the dispersing method; then he looked at Baihui, insert horizontally forward 0.8–1.2 inches, also using the dispersing method; for Fengchi, insert obliquely upward 0.8–1 inch.

Touwei is the meeting point of the Yangming and Shaoyang channels, Baihui is the meeting point of the Hand and Foot Three Yang with the Governor Vessel, Fengchi is the meeting point of the Yangwei and Foot Shaoyang channels. The three acupoints combined are effective for uplifting Yang, clearing orifices, and descending turbulence.

However, here Lu Xuan appeared quite cautious because the direction of the needle needed to be left Fengchi toward the right eye, and right Fengchi toward the left eye, still using the dispersing method; at the Hegu acupoint, insert vertically 1–1.5 inches, still using the dispersing method; Zusanli, slightly toward the tibia, insert 1–2 inches; Neiguan, insert vertically 0.5–1.5 inches.

Zusanli and Hegu are on the Yangming meridian with abundant Qi and blood, Neiguan is the connecting point of the Hand Jueyin and one of the Eight Extraordinary points, the three points can spread Qi and relieve congestion, strengthen the heart, and calm the mind.

The needles need to be retained for 15-30 minutes, with needle manipulation every 3-5 minutes.

After finishing acupuncture for the two, Lu Xuan glanced at the time—it was already almost eleven.

Seeing that Lu Xuan completed the acupuncture and paused, Nurse Yang looked curiously at the two patients with needles: "Dr. Lu, will this really work?"
