Did You Come Specially to Save Me?
Xing Shu lowered her eyes and thought of the gift she had prepared for Cheng Gang and Cheng Xingyang on Friday. She licked the blood at the corner of her mouth somewhat maniacally. Her sufferance of their oppression was driven to the brink, like a volcano about to erupt. She would definitely remember tonight’s humiliation.
Xing Shu said, “Don’t worry, Director Cheng. I’ll definitely keep an eye on Cheng Lang.”
Cheng Gang knew that Xing Shu would do it. Disgust flashed across his eyes. “Then why aren’t you getting lost?” It was as if she should be grateful that he had let her off.
Xing Shu slowly moved her feet, simmering. The situation today arose from a combination of several factors—her stupidity, Cheng family’s viciousness and the Xing family. Xing Guotai and Wu Minxia had received too many favors from Cheng Gang and the businesses between the two families had been very closely intertwined in the past decade. Xing Guotai and Wu Minxia were at the mercy of Cheng Gang, let alone Xing Shu.
Cheng Gang was used to being imperious. It never occurred to him that a pawn or marionette—to rebel, is human.
When Xing Shu got to the door, she saw Chen Ru sitting on the couch, covering her face and crying. She looked away, finding it ridiculous. These imperious people had their nose in the air to those they think are beneath them and yet, cower in front of bigger fish. This world s*cks!
Xing Shu gritted her teeth and put one foot in front of the other. Blood oozed from the wound on her leg——and trickled down her thigh, onto the ground—and left behind flecks of blood. However, Xing Shu seemed to not feel the pain as she trudged silently with an impassive face. She saw a car waiting not far away—about a hundred meters away from the villa—and the man standing in front of the car. He stood silently in the quiet night. There seemed to be a country mile between them.
After a considerable time, Cheng Lang gently patted the car and beckoned to Xing Shu—just like when he patted the seat beside him in the private room at Sunset bar.
Xing Shu admitted that a zillion thoughts ran through her mind when she heard Cheng Lang had come. But when she did not see him downstairs, those thoughts disappeared. Cheng Lang was still perched up high, atop his altar. He did not care for anyone, nor would he come for her. However, seeing him waiting here now, her cold heart seemed to slowly begin to beat again.
Cheng Lang had the world at his feet. Winning a woman’s heart was just as easy. Xing Shu’s mind went blank as she instinctively trudged towards him. Cheng Lang was really something—he was able to nearly reduce her to tears just by standing there.
Xing Shu blinked her eyes. When she reached him, she did not call him ” Young Uncle” in her usual seductive tone. She did not dare to speak, afraid that tears would erupt the moment she opened her mouth. She walked past him and got into the car.
Just let her kid herself. Just let him be the mirage in the desert. Just pretend that… he was standing here waiting for her.
Cheng Lang stood there for a while before getting into the car.
Xing Shu leaned against the car window. As Cheng Lang closed the car door, she looked up at him. She was very tired and her throat seemed to be on fire. As the car moved, she lay on Cheng Lang’s shoulder. Then, her body slowly slid down until she lay in his lap. This position was very comfortable. When she looked up, she could see his sharp chin.
“Young Uncle, did you come specially to save me tonight?” Xing Shu could not help but ask. She did not like deceiving herself—that momentary self-deception just now was enough. She needed to be clear-headed and free of any wishful thinking.
Cheng Lang held onto Xing Shu’s waist to prevent her from falling. While his action was tender, his answer was glacial. “No.”
“Oh.” Xing Shu was not really disappointed. She slowly closed her eyes. “Good that you did not. Otherwise, I’m afraid that I’ll fall in love with you.”
Xing Shu did not think that Cheng Lang would reply. She heard a faint “Okay” just as she drifted to sleep. The good thing about Cheng Lang was that he did not give people false hope. It was always very clear-cut with him.
The car stopped at Manor No. 1. The concierge doctor was already waiting there. Amidst her sleep, Xing Shu felt someone touching her thigh, as if bandaging her wound. Her body surged with heat. She wanted to turn over, but someone held her wrists tightly.
