Because the things and situations that arise are acceptable.
Zombies are easy to accept as a concept, they appear a lot in movies, just treat it as the spread of some sort of virus.
They floored the gas pedal, hoping to smash through the iron gate ahead, just inches away—who could have imagined that guy standing in front of the car, pressing down on the hood with one palm, visibly denting it.
"Hit him!" yelled Yan Hua, still in shock but quickly recovering.
Ma Chang responded, "Damn it, I am hitting him—I’m practically stomping the pedal through the floor!"
The tires spun in place.
Exhaust fumes bubbled, smoke filled the air.
Just from this, one could tell how powerful the off-road vehicle’s engine was. Any other survivor would have been crushed under the tires by now, even the iron gate could have been shattered.
"You damn well step on it," demanded Yan Hua.
"I am stepping on it!"
"Reverse the car, let’s go backward."
Sitting in the passenger seat, Yan Hua was frantically urging Ma Chang, completely stunned by the current situation. Amidst all the tough guys he had encountered during his time on the streets, he had never seen anything .
"Then reverse the damn car!" bellowed Yan Hua.
Still, the car was just treading water.
He instantly became frantic.
Ma Chang, on the verge of tears, said, "I really am reversing, but it’s just not moving. This guy’s a freak, a demon. Let’s abandon the car and run."
"Run? Without the car, tell me where can we run to," said Yan Hua startled, as he spotted two zombies attracted by the noise and running toward them. He quickly had an idea—to lead the trouble away from them and escape during the commotion.
"Oh, oh, oh," Ma Chang fumbled with the controls.
The shrill sound of the horn spread in all directions.
Yan Hua smirked at the corner of his mouth, eager to see if the other guy could handle it all.
The zombies’ guttural screams echoed.
The initial pair of zombies that had appeared ran toward Lin Fan’s side. As the apocalypse progressed, the zombies’ appearances became more grotesque, like devils walking the earth.
The two survivors, thinking they would wait for an opportunity to reverse and flee, were scared stiff by the scene before them. This was a no-win situation. All their hopes had been pinned on the zombies, yet the adversary easily dispatched them with a couple of swipes.
"Damn it, I’ve been honking the horn until now, how come there aren’t more zombies?" Yan Hua couldn’t believe the situation. Where the hell did all the zombies go?
Driving along the road, a simple honk of the horn was enough to attract a horde of zombies to follow behind—such a sight was truly shocking. If the car had issues and stopped on the street, the consequences were unimaginable.
Desperate, Ma Chang’s eyes suddenly lit up with surprise, "They’re coming, they’re coming..."
Hearing this, hope sprouted in Yan Hua’s heart, but looking in the direction Ma Chang pointed, he fell into despair. "Are you freaking sick?"
In the distance, on the street, a zombie with both legs severed dragged itself toward them with its arms. The scene was heart-wrenchingly impactful. Even becoming a zombie and falling from a high-rise, breaking both legs, what did it matter? As long as it could still move and heard the call, it would clumsily make its way toward them.
"Yan Hua, I see you as a brother, but if you curse me again, I’m done with you," Ma Chang glared at Yan Hua. To him, it shouldn’t have come to this point, it wasn’t his fault. If you think you can do better, you drive and show me what you can do.
Who could know why there were no more zombies here?
Yan Hua was furious inside. If he had a gun right now, the first shot wouldn’t be at Lin Fan; it would be to blow Ma Chang away.
Lin Fan lightly waved Frostmourne, gesturing at the two men in the car as if to say, "I’m giving you a chance; get out of the car now."
"He wants us to get out of the car."
Inside Sunshine District.
Ma Chang and Yan Hua sat crouching with their hands over their heads.
The commotion had already alerted the likes of Old Master Wang, and everyone was present, staring intently at the two stranger survivors who had caused a ruckus.
Lin Fan said, "They tried to ram our district’s iron gate with their car, and as a security guard, I had to stop them."
A monthly salary of five thousand meant he had to show real skill and protect the safety of the district.
He felt he had certainly fulfilled his duty.
Yan Nini yawned, her eyes bleary, clearly not yet fully awake. It was only 5:30, and plenty of sleep was important for a young woman.
Not to mention the times she spent anxious and afraid before being rescued by the Sunshine District, which had impacted her mental health, and even after resting for a while, there were lingering effects.
Old Master Wang scolded, "It’s you again. I knew right away you were no good. It’s only 5:30, and you don’t realize the children need their rest. Do you really think everyone is like you, plotting against others all day and night?"
Wang Kai and the others nodded repeatedly.
What was said made too much sense.
