The steel beast led the way up front, followed by a truck, with the driver Gu Hang and the guardian Lin Fan.
"Boss lady, I still feel like I’m dreaming," Wen Jie felt that since yesterday, things had started to take a subtle turn, and the sudden safety was in stark contrast to the tribulations they had faced before.
Xu Zeyang said, "If we had communicated with him in the library that day, could we have been living in Sunshine District sooner, without experiencing so much?"
The driver, Old Mao, chose to remain silent.
With a grave voice, Han Shuang said, "Experiencing certain things can help us grow. Without these experiences, we can never mature. No one knows when the apocalypse will end; it will be a prolonged struggle. Sunshine District might be a long-term sanctuary or a temporary one. Either way, we all need to work together."
"The boss lady has a point," Xu Zeyang agreed.
Old Mao said, "Our current situation is better than ever. We have a place to shelter and can get a good night’s sleep to restore our spirit."
As Han Shuang looked at the scene outside, thoughts swirled in her mind. A tranquil life without purpose was just a slow death. Their team didn’t want to be a burden on Sunshine District, so venturing out daily was inevitable.
A violent roaring sound erupted, followed by the sight of a sedan, as if struck by some tremendous force, flying out from an alley up ahead, before crashing heavily into a wall.
Han Shuang hastily called out.
This situation, this explosive force, brought to mind that image, no, that despair-inducing mutated zombie.
A deafening roar spread from the alley.
Without seeing the figure, just the sound alone was hair-raising.
The overturned sedan, its fuel tank ruptured, leaked black gasoline all over the ground. An arm stretched out from the interior, crawling laboriously, struggling to escape from the flipped vehicle.
A huge shadow leapt forth, cracking the ground upon landing. A Powerful Zombie, with its massive frame appearing like a small hill, came into everyone’s view.
The Powerful Zombie, with its bulky body, fixated its grey-white eyes on the overturned sedan and roared angrily.
Lin Fan stood in front of the steel beast, facing the Powerful Zombie.
Following behind, they became slightly puzzled when they saw the vehicle stop, but then they heard the roar and immediately recognized the sound of the zombie, knowing exactly what was happening.
The Powerful Zombie heard the voice.
It turned to look towards Lin Fan.
"How could you end up , making it impossible for ordinary survivors to live?"
Lin Fan felt helpless towards these evolved zombies. To date, he had not seen any survivor possess transcendental strength. Ordinary zombies already brought survivors to despair, let alone this kind of zombie—it seemed there was no thought of letting survivors live.
The Powerful Zombie hadn’t expected fresh flesh to appear before it and roared angrily, stepping quickly and charging toward Lin Fan.
Lin Fan didn’t draw his sword but clenched his fist instead. He threw a punch through the air, and it looked ordinary, but as he swung his arm, the air vibrated, and the flow of air was visible to the naked eye.
The Powerful Zombie hadn’t reached Lin Fan when it suddenly exploded, its flesh scattering in all directions, with debris from the street’s center being swept away to the sides. The shockwave of the impact spread to the end of the street.
Han Shuang and the others inside the steel beast were stupefied, tongue-tied.
Even witnessing Lin Fan slicing a helicopter through the air, his strength still shocked them.
It was beyond the capability of any human.
"How are you?" Lin Fan approached the sedan. The injured was a middle-aged man, covered in blood, his abdomen pierced by a sharp object, and his head bleeding continuously, with the red fluid blocking his eyes. His wounds were severe.
The middle-aged man lifted his head with great difficulty, and through his blurry vision saw Lin Fan’s face. He strained to say, "Xin... Xinfeng Welfare Institution."
Before Lin Fan could ask any more questions, the man’s head drooped, motionless, with not even a hint of breath left.
Han Shuang and her team gathered around Lin Fan, unsurprised by the scene before them.
"What happened to him?" Han Shuang inquired.
Lin Fan replied, "He mentioned Xinfeng Welfare Institution."
Xu Zeyang approached the overturned sedan, looking at the back seat, "There’s lots of snacks."
As he spoke, Xu Zeyang’s expression suddenly turned to one of surprise, and he became somber as if he had realized something.
Images flashed through his mind.
Survivors in the welfare institution, all of them children, but lacking food, leading the middle-aged man to venture out for supplies. In the end, he encountered a terrifying zombie and was flipped over and killed gruesome.
Lin Fan said, "Let’s go take a look over there."
He knew about the Xinfeng Welfare Institution; he’d once seen it in a short video, where a Huang city broadcaster introduced local scenery and buildings, stumbling upon the Xinfeng Welfare Institution.
