Being afraid, breaking down, what good would that do now?
They were not facing zombies.
But the burning flames.
They weren’t without water here, as long as they stayed calm, they still had confidence.
At the edge of the road.
He Mingxuan surveyed the surroundings.
"Sister Cao, when do we leave?" He didn’t want to wander outside; it was dangerous. Ordinary zombies were bearable, but the most feared were the Evolutionary Zombies, which were terrifying just to see.

The minivan’s driver was He Mingxuan; the truck’s driver was Brother Long.
Miao Li poured the water from the bucket, only to see more Molotov cocktails being thrown. The flames surged instantly, and thick black smoke billowed into the sky, making their eyes sting and watering.
Rubbing his eyes, he realized Wu Yang was missing, but now was not the time to worry about that. "Quick, extinguish the fire fast, bring up the fire extinguishers and spray downwards."
Wu Yang had left the rooftop, stumbling as he thought about how he absolutely could not die, refusing to perish here. He had to escape. Thinking of Cao Yan’s car outside, he was certain that if he knelt in front of Cao Yan and begged for mercy, he would be forgiven.
The front gate was engulfed in flames, definitely not an option for escape.
He went to the back door, which was simply locked. Before, it would have been difficult to sneak through the back door with everyone watching; a chance would’ve been unlikely.
But now, as everyone was busy extinguishing the fire, who would notice him?
Wu Yang unlocked the back door, about to run outside, when suddenly a severe pain shot through his ankle. Looking down, he was shocked to find a zombie, with only half of its body, clutching his ankle, biting and tearing at it.
Screaming his lungs out in agony, Wu Yang frantically stomped on the zombie, kicking it aside, then closed the door, backing against it, pale-faced, staring at his mangled, bloody ankle.
Wu Yang was panicked and scared. Just as he got up, leaning against the wall, looking for help, his body began to tremble violently. His normal eyes dissipated, turning into dull, ashen orbs as viscous fluid dribbled from the corner of his mouth.
Twisting his head continuously, he let out a low, guttural growl.
Bent over, he moved as if sleepwalking.
A survivor with a fire extinguisher, ready to take it up to the rooftop, saw the bent figure and asked, "Wu Yang, what the hell are you doing?"
Wu Yang suddenly looked up, his eyes seeing fresh flesh, and his ferocity exploded as he crazily lunged at the person.
The survivor’s eyes bulged in shock, clearly not expecting Wu Yang to have turned into a zombie. Raising the fire extinguisher, he smashed it down on Wu Yang, who paused briefly from the impact but still managed to bring his prey to the ground, biting and tearing.
Miao Li was busy at work; extinguishing fires amidst the dense smoke was a truly miserable task. Wondering why the fire extinguisher still hadn’t arrived, Miao Li became anxious and looked back.
Just as he was about to speak, the scene before him struck him dumb.
At the staircase corner leading to the rooftop, a survivor was yelling about zombies in a panicked tone. Before finishing his words, he was tackled by a zombie onto the stairs, which began tearing at him ferociously.
Seeing this, Miao Li felt his heart race, and as time seemed to slow around him, the screams grew clearer. Snapping out of his daze, he gritted his teeth, taking long strides, ran toward the door. As he saw his transformed comrade rushing towards the rooftop, he grabbed the doorknob and at the critical moment, he shut the door with a bang. A relentless pounding on the door ensued.
"Zombies, they’ve turned into zombies."
Despair spread across Miao Li’s face.
How could zombies possibly be here?
He thought of Wu Yang who, caught in despair, might be capable of anything.
Only three survivors were left on the rooftop.
A’Hai and his girlfriend, and Miao Li.
"What do we do? Are we going to die here?" asked A’Hai.
Miao Li replied, "We probably are going to die here. I never thought it would come to this. Actually, if everyone truly stuck together, there definitely would have been hope to live."
He reflected on everything since they made this place their shelter.
A’Hai sank down, falling into profound despair.
"Who can save us now?"
Miao Li said, "No one will come to save us. It’s the apocalypse now, who would come to rescue people? That’s just not possible."
The mood on the scene became very subdued.
Despair hung heavy in the air.
"A’Hai, do you hear something?"
His girlfriend spoke.
"What could it be?" A’Hai was in utter despair, but then, his eyes snapped open, ears straining to listen, "Yes, yes, it’s a sound I know well, like the sound of a fire truck."
Not only A’Hai was stunned.
Even Miao Li heard it.
The zombies banging at the iron door, hearing the sound, followed it down the stairwell to the back door, emerging onto the street.
Cao Yan, seeing zombies running from behind the building, urgently urged He Mingxuan to leave. Naturally, he agreed unconditionally, not wanting to face zombies.
