The survivors around looked on in fear, not daring to take any action. Wei Hu was fierce and irritable, and even if they combined their strength, they were no match for him.
Honestly, they felt that Wei Hu was right, the distance was too far, how could anyone possibly come.
"Hu... Brother Hu, if you hit him again, he might really die,"
someone whispered a small reminder.
Wei Hu sneered, "Die? What’s the value of a life now? Even if I beat him to death, there’s nothing wrong with that. Please, use your brains. Things have changed; it’s been a long time since the apocalypse began. Do you really think there’s still any hope? Survival of the fittest, only the strong survive. If someone disobeys and dies, no one will care."
Everyone bowed their heads.
That was how it was, they had all gotten used to living , all this time under Wei Hu’s oppression.
Some thought, living might as well be worse than death.
But when they truly faced death, the deep-seated fear in their hearts snapped them back to reality, reminding them of those who had offended Wei Hu before. They had pretended not to fear life or death, but when Wei Hu was truly about to kill them, they were scared into weeping and begging for mercy.
"Brother Hu, how should we deal with this guy? Kill him right away, or keep him alive for now?" a survivor following Wei Hu asked.
The chaos of the apocalypse had driven some people mad. They acted on whims, following the law of the jungle. Wei Hu was much stronger than them, so they obeyed his commands.
Wei Hu looked at the young man who had collapsed on the ground like a dead dog, stroking his chin as if pondering how to properly deal with him.
The satellite phone on the table rang.
It interrupted Wei Hu’s thoughts.
Wei Hu picked up the phone and saw the number, immediately laughing, "Look, this guy is calling again, still not giving up, huh? Xiao Tao, look, the place you want to go, someone from there is calling again. How about letting him hear your screams? It might enlighten him, showing that trying to save someone actually harms them instead."
He answered the call.
Before Wei Hu could speak, Lin Fan’s voice came through the satellite phone.
"Hello, I’m Lin Fan. Please open the door for me, I’m already outside."
The scene went quiet, as if time had frozen, with everyone standing there, stunned.
Wei Hu laughed uproariously.
The people following him laughed just as hard.
It was as if they’d heard the world’s biggest joke.
"Damn, I’m dying of laughter. Did you hear that? He said he’s already outside. To be honest, I’ve never felt this urge to laugh in my entire life."
"Xiao Tao, you’re really something, believing some lunatic. Huang City is far from here, he couldn’t fly over even if he wanted to."
Wei Hu didn’t talk to Lin Fan. Instead, he indulged in mocking him.
The lad lying on the ground, Xiao Tao, also showed a look of despair. He didn’t believe it either.
The ordinary survivors standing around, not daring to move, sighed in their hearts... Perhaps it was as Wei Hu had said, all of this was just a farce.
"Did you hear what I said? If you don’t open the door, I will come in myself."
Lin Fan’s voice continued through the satellite phone, followed by a loud bang, as if something had collapsed thunderously.
Wei Hu bellowed, "Don’t **** with me! Has the apocalypse messed up your brain? Come on then, appear in front of me now, so I can take a good look at how you got here, you **** idiot. You really think you can scare me."
And just as he finished speaking.
A figure walked over, unhurriedly, then stood there, smiling, keeping a relative distance from him.
"You... who are you?" Wei Hu held the satellite phone, dumbfounded, asking.
Lin Fan still held the satellite phone to his ear, saying softly, "Hello, my name is Lin Fan."
Wei Hu stared at the satellite phone in his hand, then violently at the stranger before him. Suddenly, the image of a photo he had just seen in the "Zombie Album" flashed in his mind.
The same face, carrying a sword on his back.
It really was Lin Fan.
The satellite phone slipped from Wei Hu’s hand, falling to the ground, his eyes bulging as big as a cow’s, his entire being in a daze. After a moment, he hesitantly raised his hand, pointing at Lin Fan with a face full of horror.
"You... are you a human or a ghost?"
Lin Fan glanced over the situation, his arrival was timely. The young man lying on the ground must be the survivor who had yelled out his location earlier.
He hadn’t expected that such things were happening in places he didn’t know about.
Perhaps... he thought, such incidents weren’t rare, but rather commonplace, and that many survivor bases were experiencing similar events.
"Of course I’m human," Lin Fan said.
"Impossible, you were in Huang City. It’s so far from here, it hasn’t been long since our phone call. It’s not possible, it must be a hallucination," Wei Hu shook his head, refusing to believe the situation before him, his mind rejecting the unrealistic possibility.
Lin Fan said, "Some time has passed. On the way here, I needed to pee, so I stopped by a service area to relieve myself, which delayed me a bit. Otherwise, I could have arrived even sooner."
