Luo Xiaolei was shocked the instant she opened her eyes. She even thought that she was dreaming so she stayed still, blinking at him for a moment.
However, gazing at those deep, dark eyes of his, and noticing his obviously shocked reaction, Luo Xiaolei realized that this wasn't a dream and that the Yu Chen she was seeing was real.
Seconds passed by and his eyes remained locked on hers. Luo Xiaolei's heart started to beat wildly. She was obviously nervous but she was sure that the reason why her heartbeat was this loud and fast was not because of fear. Was it because his face was just so close that it was right in front of her? That was the only reason she could think of.
M-more importantly, why was he… was he trying to… ki-kiss me?!
Luo Xiaolei face palmed herself inside her head. It was because she couldn't believe that Yu Chen was really trying to kiss her while she was asleep. To Luo Xiaolei, Yu Chen was just too pure, too innocent to do something sneaky like this. But then, if he wasn't trying to kiss her, what was he up to? Why was his face this close to hers? Why was his body so stiff that he looked like a thief who was caught red handed?
Luo Xiaolei tried to wait for him to move or at least say something, but seconds ticked by and the man remained frozen, leaving Luo Xiaolei no choice but to break this really awkward stalemate.
"Uhm… Y-yu Chen?" she managed to call out his name and finally, the frozen statue flinched.
Luo Xiaolei saw his Adam's apple bob up and down, but still, he didn't move back. His eyes glimmered with something unfathomable instead as he continued staring at her, causing Luo Xiaolei's heartbeat to speed up even faster.
Her eyes blinked and then before she knew it, her eyes were already focused on Yu Chen's tempting lips.
Oh god, Xiaolei!! What are you doing it? Why the hell are you staring at his lips in this kind of situation?!! Wait…
Suddenly, a lightbulb appeared on Luo Xiaolei's head and her eyes widened.
Could it be that… could it be that this maiden is just trying to seduce me? Was he trying to show me his seductive prowess or something by trying to wake me up this way?
Luo Xiaolei didn't even realize that she was trying her best to reason out and defend Yu Chen's action. And she wasn't actually forcing herself to do it because she just genuinely believed that this adorable endangered species would never ever take advantage of her no matter what the situation was, not when she was drunk or when she was asleep.
And so, with that mindset, Luo Xiaolei's nervousness slowly dissipated. Her expression became relaxed and her gaze at him turned gentle. And then, unexpectedly, a smile carved on her face as she spoke.
"Were you trying to wake me up?" she asked and Yu Chen was the one who blinked in surprise this time.
That moment Luo Xiaolei opened her eyes, Yu Chen felt like he was hit by a stray bullet right in the heart. He was so stunned that he even almost forgot to breathe.
Gladly, when she called out his name, he quickly recovered himself and immediately began wracking his brain about what he should do next.
Yu Chen had quickly came up with a solution and that was – as expected – no other than telling her the whole truth. However, he decided to wait and see her reaction first.
He wanted to see if Luo Xiaolei will get mad at him or not. He couldn't deny he was scared. This was actually one of the most thrilling moment he ever experienced in his life and he never thought that something like this would ever scare the him, who had never feared anyone else.
Yu Chen was so scared that Luo Xiaolei might hate him so he chose to be very careful and see her reaction first before saying a word. But then, out of the blue, the girl smiled at him? Even asking him if he tried to wake her up? Wasn't she supposed to ask him what was he doing? Wasn't it obvious enough that he was about to kiss her in her sleep?
Her reaction made Yu Chen's world lag again. It was because her reaction obviously told him that she didn't even think that he was about to kiss her. And for some reason, Yu Chen felt that this was not a good news at all.
"No, I wasn't trying to wake you up." Finally, Yu Chen spoke and his reply made Luo Xiaolei look at him in confusion.
"Then what were you…"
"Did you really… you really not even think that I was about to do something to you like… like kiss you?"
After those words left Yu Chen's mouth, a deep silence followed. Luo Xiaolei looked at him intently for a long while, while Yu Chen held his breath as he waited for what would happen next.
But then, the girl cleared her throat before she smiled again.
"Honestly, I didn't think that you were trying to do something like that. I mean, I just know you are not someone who would do something like that."
"Then… what did you think I was trying to do?"
"Since you said you were not trying to wake me up… ah, you were trying to give me a good night kiss on the forehead."
". . ."
Yu Chen was speechless. Even he could tell that this was not a good development at all. It was because Yu Chen was starting to feel like Luo Xiaolei seemed to have forgotten that he was a man.
That moment, Yu Chen sighed and then, in a seemingly extremely exhausted and yearning gesture, he sat on the edge of the bed before he weakly leaned down to softly bury his head in the crook of her neck.
"A-are you okay?" Luo Xiaolei's voice sounded worried as she raised her hand and landed it on his hair. Her gesture was just so natural, like she wasn't flustered at all, making Yu Chen let out another sigh.
"Xiaolei…" Yu Chen raised his face again and gazed at her eyes. This time, his gentle eyes seemed to have turned a bit fiercer.
"Y-yes?"
"What if I tell you that I was trying to kiss you?"
