Arc 2, Chapter 58 —A restless Night.
A storm brewed in Levon’s heart as rumbles churned in his belly.
Who?—This question went on replay in his mind in a loop.
He could hear it... the strange unsteady footsteps echoing down the hallway.
It was growing increasingly louder and more ominous with each passing second.
Levon’s instincts kicked in, as did Shugo’s.
"Buddy, you hear that?" Shugo asked, his voice low and alert.
"Yeah," Levon nodded, his senses heightened. "Something’s not right. It doesn’t sound–"
Before they could react further, the door was violently kicked open, slamming against the wall with a resounding crash.
The duo came face to face with the grotesque creatures that stood in their doorway, bathed with the moonlight from the windows.
Their eyes gleamed with predatory hunger, and the corners of their rotting mouths dripped with thick overflowing saliva.
They opened their mouths and hunched low in a guttural roar that wiped off any residue of sleep from the duo.
"How did they get in here?"
Everything happened too fast.
The ghouls lunged forward, their speed blurring them into shadowy figures that vanished and reappeared with every blink.
"This is crazy! Just how many are there?"
"Don’t waste energy. I’ve got this one."
Levon reached for the dagger underneath his pillow, no wasted movements in actions.
Both sides rushed towards each other with murderous intent.
Suddenly, a loud ringing noise bellowed.
[Warning, Warning... Enemy Detected. Engaging Protocol B.]
The both sides only froze for a second before engaging murderously.
’This one’s a Level 1 Ghoul!’ Levon assessed, as he leaped onto a bed, using it as a springboard to launch himself towards his target.
’2 minutes, that’s the most I can hold my form for.’
No wonder Form stability was so important.
Levon’s head pounded with tension, but he knew now wasn’t the time to fall into such cowardly emotions.
’Think, Levon, THINK. What did Winhest say? Level 1s are brainless, driven by pure bloodthirst.’
’I might only be able to keep Form for 2 minutes, but I’m also not the same person I used to be.’
Now, he has a subtle amount of super speed and super strength, enough to allow him sighed a few attacks.
Levon planned to only unleash his shard as a last minute move, in times of true peril.
The vampire staggered back but quickly recovered, baring its fangs in a vicious snarl.
Levon had thrown one of his daggers like a dart, causing the creature to howl furiously.
It was PISSED... SO PISSED.
But before it could react any further, Levon appeared beside it, plunging his other dagger into its chest.
Levon hastily did a backflip, shocked that he didn’t kill it completely.
There was more to it than Winhest said.
Now, he had pissed it off!

The freaking warning alert was still going on.
Thick metal screens dropped from the windows, like doomsday barricades.
The moonlight was now replaced by complete darkness, except for the gruesome luminous eyes from the creatures around.
[Emergency lights will activate in 1 minute.]
So try to survive in the darkness before then.
Levon sprung around the room with lightning speed, barely missing the creature’s attacks by inches.
Fortunately, these creatures were not thoughtful or smart, only attacking impulsively.
Nevertheless, he still felt his body softening when fighting for his LIFE.
’Lollipop... Lollipop...’
The air whistled dangerously as Levon avoided its nails by an inch.
Cold sweat was now trickling down his spine, with every move he made.
Shugo’s situation wasn’t good either.
With a swift motion, Shugo unleashed his shard, enlarging it from a giant fork, the same height as a pitchfork.
However, after energy enlargement, he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep the larger form stable for long.
Shugo danced with the pitchfork, twirling it around his waist and over his head with precision.
Shugo and the vampire danced, their weapons and claws clashing with rhythm. Then, his face grew pale.
’It’s increasing its attack speed!’
Fighting in the dark was already disadvantageous for him.
—And now, with how fast the Ghoul moved, it didn’t surprise Shugo when he was sent flying.
He crashed on a wardrobe, shattering its wooden frame to pieces.
At this point, both Levon and Shugo had to admit that although Level 1 Ghouls didn’t have much brains, their natural animal instincts were still far superior than imagined.

The duo couldn’t help questioning their sanity.
Already, the room became a chaotic battlefield as furniture was overturned and debris scattered across the floor.
They used every surface to his advantage—bouncing off tables and beds to keep their opponent off balance.
Finally, dim red lights filtered through the darkness, like answered prayers from above.

The mechanical voice went on to repeat the same words over and over again.
Thanks to the red lights, the duo were able to see some fallen body parts from these Level 1 Ghouls.
The battle was still on; and before Shugo and Levon could react, a sharp light flew past them.
Whatever it was gave them the distraction they needed.
Shugo plunged his giant fork into one’s chest, as did Levon who unleashed his Katana for the finishing kill.
The attack sent shockwaves to these ghouls, who were now trembling in agony and fury.
The duo kept eye contact with these vampires, watching them try to regenerate to no avail.
One of the ghouls turned to ashes, a thick pile of ashes.
