Since Rayen couldn’t do anything about what Binh was truly feeling, he decided to just ignore it. Besides, the matter had been temporarily resolved.
Rayen focused back on the team at the stage, waiting for them to begin. Based on their get-up, Rayen was sure they would be performing a hip-hop song.
Ballad vs. Hip-hop. That was the main highlight of this unit competition.
Still, it was puzzling why Liam chose the ballad when he was a rapper himself, and why Binh chose a hip-hop song when he was a vocalist from the first round. Not that it was a bad choice, though, since Liam did quite well. But in Binh’s case, Rayen wasn’t sure.
Would it turn out the same as Liam’s situation? Rayen just waited to see for himself.
When the lights dimmed again, Rayen’s eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness. The neon sneakers on the stage were quite eye-catching in the dark.
Finally, the lights returned and the team members that was scattered on the stage began to perform.
The moment the music began, Rayen understood what might be the reason as to why Binh chose this song instead of the first one.
The first song was a ballad, and there were many passages that required good vocal control. On the other hand, this song might be hip-hop, but there were still few vocal lines that weren’t as demanding.
Still, what a song...
The title of the song they were performing was Beautiful Memory. Without context, the listener might be thinking along the lines of, "Ahh, maybe an emotional song."
It was, but not in the same sense as what Rayen had expected.
"Etch down the lyrics I have written
Beautiful, beautiful like a maiden
If you tie it down, maybe it won’t disappear
Scratch it down, perhaps it’ll remain here"
Well, Beautiful Memory was a song about youths making beautiful memories in a way that Rayen’s lips twitch.
They broke cars, windows, drew graffiti as the team admired it. He didn’t know if it was the producer’s intention or it was just twisted by the performers, just like how Rayen’s team did.
As expected of a rap song, the beats were a bit fast. Ara took charge with most of the rap parts. Her intimidating presence and voice suited the song so much. Binh, too, did great delivering his vocal lines despite having fewer.
The team of youths rampaged on the stage like crazy.
What Rayen couldn’t deny, however, was how extravagant this team was. There were far more props on stage compared to the earlier performances.
’Well, that’s a vocal unit team for you.’
During the bidding war, this unit had the fiercest competition, so the teams likely gathered so much money that they could spend freely.
But still, this team was even more showy with their extravagance than their opposing team.
The first team probably spent most of their coins to buy boosters and enhancers instead. It was already evident from Liam’s sudden improvement.
After this team’s performance, Rayen leaned back in his chair. The two teams were neck and neck in terms of performance level, making it difficult to predict who would win.
Though for the team’s MVP, it was obvious who would win. Ara’s charisma overflowed from the start to the end of the song. It wasn’t even necessary to think about it.
It’s quite regrettable though. If only he had been from this unit, he would’ve been confident on snagging the MVP position.
In the visual unit however, he could only sigh.
After five minutes, this team’s MVP was finally announced. As expected, Rayen’s guess was correct.
The Vocal Unit teams returned to their seats. Finally, their own unit was called to the stage.
Rayen stood from his seat as everyone from his team followed. Numerous eyes landed on them, especially on Rayen.
Breaking out in a cold sweat, Rayen still tried to project a confident appearance. He puffed out his chest just like the way Plotter would.
After stepping down two levels, Rayen heard a chuckle coming from behind him. In his Victorian outfit, Adrian slung his arm around Rayen’s neck.
"Roommate, why did you join the cute team?" he asked. "I was looking forward to being teammates with you."
’I obviously avoided you.’
Throughout the whole way, although Rayen had brushed off this writer, Adrian still stuck to him like glue. Rayen’s teammates all glanced at him with weird gazes, especially Nana. She was even blushing, a somewhat drunk smile was plastered on her face.
Rayen joined his team.
Yeon Miwol stood between the two teams, watching everyone.
"It seems that some of our participants are quite close to each other," she said with a smile.
Adrian answered without waiting for Rayen to speak. "Yes, we’re currently roommates."
"Oh... Then it’s unfortunate that you’re on opposing teams right now," Yeon Miwol exclaimed.
As though Adrian was too used to this kind of thing, he continued to answer the interviews.
When the cameras turned toward the elegant Adrian, his lips seemed to pout, expressing his regret about the matter. "Yes. When I thought we would be teammates with him since we’re from the same unit, but then, it was suddenly announced there’d be two different teams."
He shook his head. Rayen continued to watch the scene with amusement. It was rare for this lazy writer to take initiative, but now that they’re on cam, he seemed to have transformed.
’What a two-faced bastard.’
He was even using Rayen to gain more screen time.
"Now then, what do you wish to say to your roommate now that you’re against each other?" Yeon Miwol asked.
Adrian erased the regretful expression from his face and glanced at Rayen.
"Of course, I’ll beat him. You know the saying, you need to keep your enemies closer. In this show, I’m confident that I know his weakness the most," Adrian smirked, provoking Rayen.
Intrigued, Yeon Miwol followed up with another question. "Oh? What is it?"
Adrian laughed. "You can see it in his face."
With that, the cameras and eyes in the venue turned toward Rayen’s face. It was clear with his furrowed brows and dark expression.
He wanted to click his tongue, but he restrained himself. Instead, he responded to Adrian’s provocation.
"Come, then. Let’s see if you really know me," Rayen said, sneering.
