Mu Mingtang felt shy and murmured, “So you all know, I thought I just celebrated my birthday casually.”
Everyone’s smiles grew more awkward as they once again got reminded that they were not invited to Princess An’s birthday celebration.
She looked down on them so much that she didn’t even want to save their face and send out invitations on her birthday.
Although Mu Mingtang didn’t give them any face, the noble ladies still had to treat Mu Mingtang respectfully and courteously. So when Jiang Mingwei heard birthday blessings here and there, her face became more and more ugly.
Previously, Mu Mingtang, as her substitute, had always celebrated her birthday in June, as Jiang Mingwei’s birthday was in June. When Jiang Mingwei heard the bustle on the street, she only then learned that Mu Mingtang’s birthday actually fell on the first day of April.
Jiang Mingwei got angry when she learned how Xie Xuanchen celebrated Mu Mingtang’s birthday. She was still trying to figure out how to win Xie Xuanji’s favour and how to subdue the vixens at this point, so why did Xie Xuanchen spend so much money on Mu Mingtang’s birthday?
‘It was just a birthday, wasn’t it?’
In her heart, Jiang Mingwei despised Mu Mingtang. ‘This Princess An pretend that she is down to earth while acting such a way. Huh… What a…’
Although Jiang Mingwei pretended not to care, she spent the entire day observing the activity from the next door.
Mu Mingtang didn’t hold a birthday banquet. It looked very shabby, but Xie Xuanchen actually stayed with her all day, accompanying her to enjoy the flowers, play with her, and even brew flower wine with her.
Jiang Mingwei did her best to appear indifferent, but in reality, she was angry and jealous. How could someone do this for Mu Mingtang? How could Xie Xuanchen have begonias transplanted from hundreds of miles away for her?
Mu Mingtang was just an adopted daughter of the Jiang family. Although she was named the second miss of the Jiang family, neither the Jiang family’s members nor her former fiancée, Xie Xuanji, believed it. Everyone considered Mu Mingtang as Jiang Mingwei’s stand-in. Mu Mingtang could only live in her shadows forever; a shadow did not need a name.
The Jiang family and Xie Xuanji ignored Mu Mingtang as a matter of course, and Mu Mingtang never mentioned her own affairs. But now, there was a person who announced to the world grandly that Mu Mingtang’s birthday was on the first day of April, and she loved begonias very much.
Jiang Mingwei felt some subtle embarrassment, as if she had been hit in the face. She loathed Mu Mingtang for replacing her in her past life. She always felt that no matter how far Mu Mingtang climbed, she was merely a stand-in. She was better than Mu Mingtang in every way.
Jiang Mingwei, however, now understood that Mu Mingtang was no longer her shadow. Everyone talked about Princess An’s extravagance, her birthday activities and how Prince An pampered her.
Jiang Mingwei herself was not even mentioned. She had now unknowingly become the person living under Mu Mingtang’s shadow.
