The old servant also kept sighing, “I don’t know, either. The Senior General and the Masters in the front hall have already started arguing with the messengers. Senior Madam Xu was worried that Your Highness would be at risk, so she sent me to let Your Highness know a bit earlier and make some preparations.”
Mu Mingtang reacted suddenly, “No wait, if Zhongshan City is ceded to Beirong, aren’t I already exposed?”
1st Madam Xu also suddenly realised that Xie Xuanchen had left the Zhending Mansion, so Ye Luyan probably guessed that Mu Mingtang was no longer in Zhending and was probably in the towns of Zhongshan or Hejian. Therefore, Ye Luyan wanted these three places as soon as he could demand them. Taiyuan resisted for a long time and Ye Luyan would most likely have a grudge with them whereas Mu MIngtang was hidden in either Zhongshan or Hejian. Once these three places fall into the hands of Yeluyan, there would no longer be a barrier to the north of the Ye Dynasty and they would be almost entirely exposed to the Beirong people. Therefore, they would no longer be able to protect themselves. Not only that, but Ye Luyan would also be able to use Mu Mingtang to blackmail Xie Xuanchen to avenge King Dongdan.
Everyone looked at each other and there was a huge feeling of coldness behind their backs. 5th Madam Xu was impatient and walked out without saying much, “Bring me my spear, I’ll kill those mutts!”
“Stop her quickly!” 1st Madam Xu immediately asked a servant to stop the 5th Madam. 5th Madam Xu struggled hard and cursed, “These assholes, we are here to protect the territory with our lives and they ceded Zhongshan to Beirong with a talk. If Zhongshan falls into the hands of the Beirong people, how can the soldiers and civilians in this city survive?! I will kill those traitors!”
5th Madam Xu was so strong that 2 servants could hardly stop her. 1st Madam Xu shouted suddenly, “5th Sister, that is an imperial envoy from the imperial court. Do you want to rebel against the Emperor?”
After Xu Wuniang was yelled at, she calmed down, but couldn’t help it and started shedding tears, “Then what should we do? Can we just watch Zhongshan be handed to Beirong and watch the foundation that Wulang built with his life be destroyed?”
Others in the room joined in the waterworks. Mu Mingtang felt sad in her heart. They were continuously risking their lives here, but little did they know that when they were desperately fighting and resisting the foreign enemies, the imperial court had already ceded them to the enemy.
They were still crying when suddenly, a servant stumbled in from outside, “Your Highness, please leave quickly. Two Beirong people wanted to familiarise themselves with the terrain, so they came to search the back with the imperial envoy.”
Mu Mingtang was horrified, knowing that they were coming for her. Everyone panicked for a moment and the maids hurriedly said, “Your Highness, what should we do? Shall we leave?”
“There’s nowhere to go,” Mu Mingtang said with a serious face, “If they dare to come to the backyard to search, how can they not have the residence surrounded by now? If we go out, we will fall into a trap.”
“What should we do? The back house is only so big, where else can we hide?”
Mu Mingtang also felt at a loss. Yes, she couldn’t walk or hide, so where else could she go?
When 5th Madam Xu heard this, she immediately asked someone to get her the spear and said, “Since His Highness has left the Princess under the care of the Xu family, it means that he trusts our family. Even if I die in battle today, I will never let the mutts enter this door.”
