When the imperial envoy was stared at by Xie Xuanchen, he really thought that Xie Xuanchen was going to kill him.
The imperial envoy hurriedly crawled away. After everyone left, silence returned to the courtyard.
Xie Xuanchen’s words remained fresh in his ears, but no one dared to think about what his last sentence meant.
And Xie Xuanchen had no intention of explaining. He put his sword into the sheath with one hand, stepped forward and touched Mu Mingtang’s shoulders. Changing the direction of where she faced, he covered her eyes with his own hands, “Wait a little longer and be careful where you step. I’ll take you back to the house.”
His voice was gentle and casual. It was almost as if he just drew his sword and sliced up two radishes, making it an ordinary and insignificant action.
Mu Mingtang let him play around. 1st Madam Xu and 5th Madam Xu, who were standing at the door, saw them and quickly made way for Xie Xuanchen.
They watched helplessly as Xie Xuanchen protected Mu Mingtang while escorting her back to the house. Only then did someone enter the yard and drag the bodies out. The women of the Xu family stood on the steps, looking at each other with their husbands as they were all left speechless.
Senior General Xu and several others waited in the study for a while before Xie Xuanchen came out. When he saw Xie Xuanchen, he wanted to salute, but the Prince stretched out his hand to stop him, “Senior General Xu, there is no need to be polite. Everyone, please sit down.”
Xie Xuanchen was actually about the same age as the Xu family’s grandchildren and at least half of the people present were older than him. But as long as Xie Xuanchen was here, he was the one who had a dominant tone when he spoke.
Even so, now was not the time to pay attention to etiquette, so everyone sat down accordingly. Senior General Xu asked Xie Xuanchen, “Your Highness, you killed the two Beirong people who were responsible for the delivery ceremony. I’m afraid Ye Luyan won’t let it go this easily, so can I inquire as to what your next plans are?”
After Senior General Xu finished speaking, all eyes in the study focused on Xie Xuanchen. His eyes were bright and he said, “Zhongshan, Taiyuan and Hejian have always been the territories of the Ye Dynasty, so there is no reason to hand them over to the Beirong people. Tell the Hejian General that those who are not my people will not get a hold of our territories, so there is no need to trust any outsiders.”
Senior General Xu nodded and said, “I understand, I will write to General Chang of Hejian,” In fact, there was no need for General Xu to express this since he guessed that the news would probably be sent back to Hejian anyway. If Xie Xuanchen refused to rescind his position and rights, Hejian must have learned something and acted the same way. Even if they didn’t dare to kill the enemies, they would have driven them away by now.
After Senior General Xu finished speaking, he felt that something was wrong. Xie Xuanchen asked him to write a letter, so what was he going to do?
Senior General Xu’s eyes changed slightly, “Your Highness, you…”
Xie Xuanchen nodded slightly, “Yes, I plan to leave the seclusion and catch Ye Luji before returning.”
He said it lightly, but everyone else in the study was shocked. Xie Xuanchen raised his hand and moved his wrist at will. He was now wearing a narrow-sleeved military uniform and the arrow sleeves covered the back of his hands, leaving only his long and pale fingers exposed.
