While the Deputy General was reporting in the meeting hall, others were not allowed to interrupt. But even though the private audience was not yet over, someone announced from outside the door, “Your Highness, a messenger is here.”
Xie Xuanchen asked, “Who is it?”
“A messenger sent by Ye Luyan.”
When Xie Xuanchen heard that it was Ye Luyan, he knocked on the table and suddenly smiled, “It’s him. Bring him in.”
As soon as the Deputy General heard this, he immediately stepped aside and let out a long sigh of relief. The scapegoat came to the door at the right time.
After the messenger entered, he bowed hard to Xie Xuanchen and said, “Prince An, our 8th Prince has heard about your capture of King Dongdan and is very angry about this. You clearly promised to let King Dongdan leave safely, so why did you go back on your word and broke your promise? This kind of behaviour is disgusting.”
Xie Xuanchen laughed when he heard these words. He leaned back on the back of his chair and looked at the messenger with a smile, “I did keep my promise and let Ye Luji leave, but now, he’s just captured by me again. You’re blaming me when it’s you guys who are incompetent?”
The Deputy General heard some soft tutting from the side. His Highness was already in a bad mood today, but the messenger seemed to insist on pulling onto his leg. Just for that, the Deputy General was going to pray for the guy.
The messenger was so infuriated, but thinking about the fact that King Dongdan was in the hands of the other party, he reluctantly held back and asked, “Prince An, you’ve ignored our faith and went back on your word. What else do you want now?”
Xie Xuanchen’s smile gradually faded, “Simple— go back and tell Ye Luyan that if he wants to save Ye Luji’s life, he has to retreat immediately. Don’t try to pull any tricks because I’ll wait for him at the border. When he withdraws back to Beirong with his army of 60,000, I will naturally let Ye Luji go.”
The messenger did not expect that just a few days ago, they were going to get their hands on the Ye Dynasty before being in the same situation as them in the blink of an eye. The messenger’s face was ashen, but after a while, he said, “I will relay the words of Prince An to the 8th Prince. However, I must see King Dongdan to make sure that he is really here.”
Xie Xuanchen laughed when he heard this as his eyes suddenly became sharp, “I am the one giving you my conditions, so you have no right to bargain. Don’t worry though, I will send Ye Luji’s finger to Empress Dowager Xiao in two days. She will tell you if it’s really him or not.”
When the messenger heard this, his expression changed and he said angrily, “Your Emperor is still in our hands. Aren’t you afraid that the 8th Prince will kill your Emperor if you behave this arrogantly?”
“Then just kill him,” Xie Xuanchen’s face was pale. With a careless smile on his lips, the anger in his eyes was so vivid, “He is my uncle. If you kill him, I’d even want to thank you.”
The messenger was dumbfounded, never expecting that Xie Xuanchen would dare to say such a thing. The messenger’s confidence was already half gone, but he still held on to the table and said, “What about your capital? I heard that it is very prosperous and has a population of one million. Don’t you care about the Emperor or the capital at all?”
