Mu Mingtang hesitated before she asked tentatively, “Do you want to be the Emperor?”
“It depends on whether or not you want to be the Empress,” Xie Xuanchen’s eyes were full of smiles. His expression seemed to indicate that he was joking, but his tone was serious, “If you want to, then I will fight for the throne for you to make sure there is not a second Empress in the world. If you don’t want to, then we can have a young Emperor while we enjoy living a comfortable life. For that to happen, when our firstborn son grows up, we can just throw the throne at him.”
Mu Mingtang had mixed emotions as she listened to the speeches of this rebellious official and traitor. She was genuinely scared when she asked him about this, but upon hearing these words coming from Xie Xuanchen’s mouth, she was no longer even surprised.
Perhaps she got used to it after seeing it too much. She had always known that Xie Xuanchen was a very ambitious person. He never wanted to be a subordinate to others and it was a must to take the lead in everything he did.
Mu Mingtang didn’t know how to describe her mood at the moment. Of course, she had no reason to stop her husband from advancing. Plus, it wasn’t like she could actually stop him anyway. But once Xie Xuanchen succeeded in becoming the Emperor, would he have a harem as well?
Even if Xie Xuanchen officially raised the flag of rebellion, many people would stand by him and donate their beautiful wives and daughters to him.

Xie Xuanchen felt threatened. He stared at Mu Mingtang’s expression and probed, “Are you worried that my rebellion will fail? Don’t worry, I won’t let myself be labelled as a rebel. With Xie Rui’s lack of popularity among the masses, I won’t let him even try to counterattack. The rebellion will also force him to make the Ministers descend into chaos as they won’t have a choice. Moreover, his own succession to the throne was done unfairly and I even have a trump card in my hands.”
Mu Mingtang lowered her eyes and said nothing. After a while, she raised her head and smiled at Xie Xuanchen, “I have never doubted your ability. Of course I believe you will do well in everything you set your mind to.”
