Today, the small kitchen had specially cooked a scrumptious serving of fish. Apparently, they had acquired some aquatic products from Xiangyang. The servants deliberately let Mu Mingtang eat more and kept trying to make her happy. On the flip side, she knew their good intentions and was really embarrassed to make the whole residence worried about her, so she forced herself to take a few bites.
The servants were overjoyed when they saw this, so one of them quickly added a piece of fish to Mu Mingtang’s plate and said, “Your Highness, please try this fish. I heard that this chef had used the secret recipe that has been passed down from his ancestors to cook the fish. The fish is smooth and tender. Plus, it’s fresh but not greasy. Would you like to try some, Your Highness?”
Mu Mingtang couldn’t bear to brush off the servant’s kindness. When she picked it up and tried it, she smelled the smell of fish from the tip of his nose and felt violently nauseous. Mu Mingtang threw down the bowl and chopsticks, leaned over to the other side and retched. Everyone in the room was shocked by this turn of events. The servant came to her senses and quickly said, “Go and ask Taoist priest Li to come over.”
The news that the Princess was unwell immediately alarmed the whole residence and the little Taoist priest was practically dragged to the main room. As soon as the servants saw him, they all gathered around and said, “Taoist priest, you are finally here. We don’t know what happened to Her Highness today. She suddenly retched, so please go inside to have a look!”
The little Taoist priest straightened his clothes and gestured to the servants, “Don’t panic, I’ll go and see to it right now.”
Mu Mingtang was also frightened. She thought about things carefully and felt that she had not eaten anything of unknown origin recently. Nevertheless, the nausea just now occurred so quickly and abruptly that she could hardly bear it.
When Mu Mingtang saw the little Taoist priest coming in, she immediately excused him from bowing and stated, “Taoist priest, there is no need to be polite. Please check my pulse.”
The little Taoist priest held Mu Mingtang’s wrist through the handkerchief. Soon, he withdrew his hand and muttered, “And here I thought something had gone wrong; that gave me quite a scare.”
Mu Mingtang looked at him nervously and worriedly. When he saw that he only pressed her hand for a short while before withdrawing it, she couldn’t help but ask, “Taoist priest, do you not need to examine the other hand?”
“There is no need,” The little Taoist priest waved his hand carelessly and said, “2 taels of Angelica sinensis, Chuanxiong rhizome and white peony root each. 4 taels of fried dodder seeds and another 2 taels of donkey-hide gelatin. Drink it once every three days and I will check your pulse again in a few days. If you have enough spirit in you, there might even be no need for medication.”
Mu Mingtang was confused when she heard this and she asked, “Taoist priest, what exactly is wrong with me?”
After hearing this, the little Taoist priest was stunned for a moment, “Did I not mention that it was a blessed reading?”
Mu Mingtang was stunned, not knowing how to react. The little Taoist priest belatedly patted his forehead and said, “What’s wrong with my brain lately? I keep forgetting things. It seems that I didn’t tell you, but you’re not sick. Instead, you are pregnant.”
