Xie Xuanchen thought about how experienced he was and said confidently, “I know you are worried about me taking in concubines. When I left, I didn’t think about this, but later on, I realised that you might have been worried about this all along.”
Mu Mingtang was obviously startled when she heard Xie Xuanchen mention taking concubines. Xie Xuanchen knew that he was right as soon as he saw her expression. Then, he held Mu Mingtang’s hand. In response to that, she wanted to pull her hand away but he refused, “Tangtang, look into my eyes.”
Mu Mingtang looked into his eyes as if she was bewitched.
Xie Xuanchen’s eyes were beautiful, enamoured with graceful lines and a bright light in those orbs. The teardrop mole was especially captivating, which looked just right, “Everyone is on my side now because I managed to climb up to where I am. But, in the beginning, when I was at risk of death, when my life nearly ended with the reputation of a madman and when I almost couldn’t survive, it was you who kept telling me to keep living. My life ended three years ago back then and now, I only live every day, every year, because you are alive.”
“Perhaps you won’t even understand what you mean to me. When I was in the abyss, you were the only one I could see. When I was a boy, I loved power and was ambitious, but that boy is dead. The world, the soldiers, ambition and power are no longer important to me. As of now, my only obsession in this life is you.”
Mu Mingtang was shocked by these words. She had never thought that Xie Xuanchen’s feelings for her were so deep and complicated. Xie Xuanchen looked intensely at the person in front of him. Every stroke of her eyebrows, every frown and every smile of hers made him yearn for her crazily, almost to the point of obsession. He even wished he could merge her into his flesh and blood so that he would never lose her again.
Xie Xuanchen suddenly reached out and hugged her again, as if only by physical contact could he be sure that she was really here with him. Xie Xuanchen wished that time would pass in an instant and that he and Mu Mingtang would be dead. Then, he would no longer have to worry about twists and turns for the rest of his life.
On his darkest days, a young girl had come to him with a starry face and said softly to him, “Your Highness, my name is Mu Mingtang.”
Later, it was her who rushed out of the crowd and hugged him, saying, “He is merely sick and is not a sinner.”
Later, she looked at him with starry eyes, trusting and firm, “Of course I believe you. You are my saviour, my unparalleled hero.”
All for Mu Mingtang, Xie Xuanchen lived until the end of the year to celebrate the New Year with her and also managed to see the crabapples with her in the next spring. Later, as he became more and more greedy, he wanted to look forward to a long time, wanted to have children with her and never be separated again in this life.
Xie Xuanchen hugged the woman in his arms, tightening his arms tighter and tighter, force and restraint intertwined. He used force because he was afraid that she would disappear if he let go, but he restrained himself because he was afraid that he would be too strong and hurt her.
