Mu Mingtang’s heart was a little broken. In her previous life, he seemed like a god descended from heaven, brave and handsome. Mu Mingtang fell in love with him at first sight and attributed almost all the good virtues in the world to him. Madam Yin apologised to Master and Madam Mu who came over. She also asked her servant to get some medicine for Mu Mingtang to calm her nerves. The Mu couple saw at a glance that the other party was either rich or noble, most likely an official family, so how dare they say anything otherwise. After Madam Yin finished talking to Madam Mu, she looked down and saw Xie Xuanchen and Mu Mingtang were still staring at each other. The two children seemed to be stuck, neither of them moving.
Madam Yin thought that Mu Mingtang had not recovered from the shock, so she said softly, “Don’t be afraid, young lady. Although he is a mess, he is not a person who doesn’t care about the graveness of situations. He was reckless today, so I will punish him when I go back.”
After that, Madam Yin glared at Xie Xuanchen, “Why don’t you apologise to her quickly?”
Xie Xuanchen was not the type to apologise to others. He had never been submissive even in front of his father since he was a child. Therefore he sneered at first, but noticed the little one dumbly looking at him still, as if she was awestruck.
He inexplicably found this little idiot a bit pleasing to the eye, so for the first time in his life, he reluctantly said, “I was wrong.”
After saying that, he thought Mu Mingtang’s round eyes were too cute, so he stretched out his finger and poked her forehead, “Why do you look so dense?”
When Madam Yin saw this exchange, she immediately slapped Xie Xuanchen in a reproachful way, although the latter didn’t seem bothered by the force at all. He saw Mu Mingtang rub the spot he poked just now, finally reacting, as she stared at him strangely.
Xie Xuanchen felt that the way she looked at him was very odd, so he suddenly asked, “Do you know me?”
Mu Mingtang was startled. After all, she was once an Empress, but to be seen through by a mere 13-year-old child? She immediately restrained her expressions and said, “I don’t know you.”
Xie Xuanchen looked at her and raised his eyebrows slightly, making Mu Mingtang feel weak under his gaze. He was obviously barely a teen, but why did she feel like she was exposed?
Madam Yin didn’t notice the disturbance and tension between them. She only had two sons— the eldest had passed away early due to a rash developing into an illness whereas her younger and sole remaining son was a devil in disguise. She would have loved to have a daughter, though it didn’t seem like fate ever intended for her to have one. Hence, upon seeing the obedient, doll-like Mu Mingtang, it was the least her heart could do when it practically melted.
