Xie Xuanchen ignored Xie Yi’s words, but when Madam Yin spoke, he obeyed. He snorted softly and although he stopped spouting nonsense, he still didn’t give up.
Finally, Madam Yin looked at her son and said, “Well, this timing was pretty good as well. I was worried that bringing Mingtang here frequently would delay her education. It just so happens that we have school lessons at home, so let’s have her attend classes together with them. This way, we could kill two birds with one stone.”
Mu Mingtang widened her eyes in surprise and was about to object when Xie Xuanchen interrupted her, “Yes, it’s settled then.”
Mu Mingtang didn’t have time to react before she saw Madam Yin looking at her with a smile, eyes full of tenderness, “The matter of studying is settled. I will talk to Madam Mu another day. In fact, I’ll just send someone today.”
Mu Mingtang tried to refuse, “Madam, you don’t have to…”
Mu Mingtang felt Xie Xuanchen pinching her hand again. She couldn’t bear it anymore and broke free angrily, “What are you doing?”
Xie Xuanchen’s hand, now no longer holding onto hers, felt empty. He rubbed his fingertips slightly, but his words held no regret, “You are a kid, don’t interrupt adults. I know you do not enjoy studying, but the world can’t always bend to your wishes.”
Mu Mingtang was stunned to hear a half-grown boy, who pretty much hated everything in the world, calling her a child. Mu Mingtang was stunned for a while before she reacted, “Who are you calling kid?”
…Wasn’t it obvious that she was the kid?
“Alright, alright,” Madam Yin stopped the two, “You two want to fight even for something like this? Both of you are children indeed. Okay, hurry and play outside, stop staying here.”
Madam Yin’s words stopped Mu Mingtang and Xie Xuanchen.

When she was in the Xie Residence, Mu Mingtang couldn’t afford to offend Madam Yin in front of everyone. She planned to persuade her parents after returning home that it was a bad idea. Unexpectedly, when Father Mu and Mother Mu heard that Madam Yin wanted to take their daughter for lessons in their residence, they immediately agreed.
Although merchants were rich now, resources were still monopolised by the upper class, especially when it came to studying. Regardless, the Mu family was a merchant family. Ordinary scholars were very contemptuous when it came to teaching merchants or the nouveau riche, so it was common for them to reject the offer no matter how much money was being offered. However, being invited along to the Xie family was a different matter altogether.
Every parent hopes that their children would become successful and the Mu family too harbour the same hopes. They wished for nothing more than their daughter to have more opportunities or contacts with precious educational resources.
In the end, Mu Mingtang was forced to go to the Xie family’s school. She tried her hardest all night to talk her way out of it, but her parents thought that Mu Mingtang was lazy and didn’t want to study hard. In fact, they almost gave her a good scolding.
Sure enough, the next morning, the Xie family’s carriage came to pick up Mu Mingtang. She then got on the carriage sadly and was sent to the school to study with a heavy heart.
Who would want to go to school with Xie Xuanchen and Xie Xuanji? Firstly, she wanted to be 10 feet away from Xie Xuanji and it would be best if they didn’t meet again in this life. As for Xie Xuanchen, he didn’t seem like a good person to be around either.
