No one expected that they would never see each other again, resulting in the parting words between them being accusations.
Xie Yi was heartbroken. Obviously, this was his son that he was proudest of. Xie Yi had nothing remarkable in his life, doing many wrongs and killing many people. Only his son remained his lifelong pride.
So now Xie Yi could truly see Xie Xuanchen, who was still a teenager under the lamp. He was only 13 years old, apparently just finishing a bath and was only wearing an undershirt. It seemed that he was about to go to bed. When he looked up at Xie Yi, his eyes were clear and bright, looking like his spirits still soared in the skies.
Those eyes never suffered from the dust, never had his pride broken.
Xie Xuanchen held Mu Mingtang’s purse in his hand. He was about to go to bed, but suddenly he remembered the purse that he ‘obtained’ during the daytime, so he took it out to study it. He was looking at the pouch seriously when suddenly, someone pushed open the door, leading Xie Xuanchen to subconsciously hold the purse with his backhand. He waited for a long time, and seeing his father also looking at him with a strange look without saying anything, Xie Xuanchen couldn’t bear it anymore and asked, “Why are you here?”
Xie Yi and Xie Xuanchen weren’t close. The two of them rarely talked, let alone spilled their hearts out to each other at ungodly hours. For Xie Yi to approach Xie Xuanchen so abruptly this late at night, the latter instinctively didn’t think there was anything good about this visit.
Xie Yi saw the defensiveness and alienation in Xie Xuanchen’s eyes and was heartbroken. He obviously loved Xie Xuanchen very much, but how had he managed to let things end up to this extent?
How much did he neglect Xie Xuanchen to make his son behave so defensively against him?
Xie Yi wanted to say something to ease the atmosphere, but then he realized that he didn’t know his son at all.
He didn’t know what books Xie Xuanchen read or what he liked. He didn’t know how he ate, dressed, lived and traveled recently. So when Xie Yi opened his mouth, he could only think of those cold war reports and official business.
It was as if they were not father and son, but colleagues in the officialdom.
Xie Yi felt even more pain flare in his heart. But he tried to soften his tone and ask Xie Xuanchen how his studies and martial arts progress were going recently or if he had encountered any difficulties. Xie Xuanchen patiently answered them one by one. After he finished speaking, Xie Xuanchen realised that Xie Yi still did not mention the purpose of his visit, so he could not help but raise his eyebrows and asked, “What are you really here for?”
Xie Yi was actually not used to getting along with the current Xie Xuanchen. After all, his son was too young and too innocent in a sense. Xie Yi’s impression of Xie Xuanchen was the King of Qiyang who controlled half of the world’s troops and horses. His son’s reputation among the people and the army had long surpassed his own by then. Suddenly seeing him at the age of 13 and still being somewhat immature, Xie Yi was a little confused.
Xie Yi sighed as he heard Xie Xuanchen impatiently asking him what was going on. He felt his heart take a skydive once again. Yes, although he was very immature now, he was still indeed Xie Xuanchen.
