Seeing that Xie Xuanchen said it in a convincing manner, Mu Mingtang suspected that it was likely true. Xie Xuanchen had indeed appeared unexpectedly. But since he spoke, no one dared to refute him. The book boy lowered his head and handed the book on Xie Xuanchen’s desk to Mu Mingtang.

“Just take it,” Xie Xuanchen didn’t care and said, “My things will be yours in the future. If you need anything next time, go ahead and take it from my share.”
Xie Xuanchen’s words were implicitly targeted, making everyone in the school embarrassed for a good while. The teacher also felt like it was a good time to go, so he stood up and straightened his sleeves, “Let’s stop here for today. Since the Second Young Master missed the second half of the class, I will make it up for him tomorrow.”
Xie Xuanchen nodded, “Thank you, teacher.”
After the teacher left, Mu Mingtang looked at the book in her hand and still felt like it was burning, “You missed the class, so you should take the book back. That way you can review it and be ready for the next lesson.”
“No need for that,” Xie Xuanchen stood with his hands behind his back, refusing to take the book Mu Mingtang was trying to give him. His following tone seemed rather disgusted, “Do you really think I need to review? Even if someone has to suffer, it shouldn’t be you. If you don’t want mine, perhaps you want another book from someone else?”
Jiang Mingwei’s hand that was holding her book suddenly stiffened. With that, Mu Mingtang had no choice but to accept it.
Jiang Mingwei looked at Xie Xuanchen then at Mu Mingtang before she felt particularly ashamed, so she hurriedly ran out with the book. Seeing this, Xie Xuanji shouted ‘Mingwei’ and hurriedly chased after her.
After the two others left, Xie Xuanchen poked Mu Mingtang on the forehead in frustration, “You can behave so fiercely to me, but you would let others bully you in front of outsiders?”
Xie Xuanchen’s hand was quite strong. Mu Mingtang covered her forehead in pain and glared at him angrily, “What outsiders? When did you and I become family?”
Mu Mingtang then recalled that there was another hidden, implicit meaning when calling someone else ‘family’. Xie Xuanchen snorted before his mood inexplicably improved, “You’re just a boss at home, but a kitten outside.”(2)
(T/N: Calling an outsider a family, if they are of the opposite gender, would commonly lead to the assumption that the two are getting/have been married. Xie Xuanchen’s follow-up sentence is also used to describe her, but it’s also a double meaning that she behaves like a boss with him because they act like a couple at home)
Although her idea is correct, she should call me ‘husband’ instead.
