After a while, Mu Mingtang asked in a low voice, “You kicked that person today. Will you be punished by the General when you go back later?”
“Of course,” Xie Xuanchen sneered at this and said, “There is nothing good about me in his eyes, but it doesn’t matter. Either way, I’ve been punished many times throughout the years, so this one time doesn’t really affect much.”
“But…” Mu Mingtang bit her lip, hesitant to speak, “This time it was obviously because of me.”
Xie Xuanchen looked at her curiously, “So what? I took you into the Xie family, so how can I let you be bullied? With such an unclean manner of speech, I have already given consideration to his family name’s sake by not killing him.”
For a good while, Mu Mingtang remained speechless. She looked at the vast rain outside the eaves and suddenly felt her nose sour.

She erased all her edges and corners, dared not speak or laugh, and became the person that both Xie Xuanji and the Jiang family were satisfied with. Xie Xuanchen found that Mu Mingtang had not spoken for a long time, so he was shocked when he lowered his head, “Are you crying?”
“No,” Mu Mingtang blinked hard and walked out of the shade first, “The rain has stopped, let’s go back.”
Xie Xuanchen didn’t expect Mu Mingtang’s eyes to turn red. Stunned for a good second, he was half a beat slower when catching up with her footsteps. The wind blew after the rain stopped, the breeze blowing through Mu Mingtang’s half-sodden clothes. She shivered slightly at the chill.
Xie Xuanchen saw her shiver and took off his coat without saying a word, draping it over her shoulders. Mu Mingtang was surprised and wanted to take it off immediately, “How can I…”
“If I let you wear it, then just do it,” Xie Xuanchen forcefully held onto Mu Mingtang’s shoulders and wrapped his coat around her tiny frame, “It’s okay for me to get wet in the rain, but you can’t. Don’t go back to class today, I’ll take you home.”
Mu Mingtang skipped school for the first time in his life, and his voice hesitated: “Isn’t this bad?”
“Why is it bad?” Xie Xuanchen didn’t care at all, and said, “Don’t worry, when I get to your house, I’ll say that it rained today and the teacher cancelled the class. Your parents won’t find out.”
With that, Mu Mingtang shut up silently. Xie Xuanchen truly was experienced in creating believable stories.
Even if a large devil became smaller and more immature, he was still a devil.
Hence, Xie Xuanchen sent Mu Mingtang home, changed into a dry coat at the Mu family’s residence and then walked to the Xie Mansion.
He originally expected that Xie Yi would be angry again after returning home. Most likely, he would be punished by the family rules, but he didn’t expect that the house would actually be peaceful upon his return.
He assumed that Xie Yi hadn’t obtained the news yet, so this was merely calm before the storm. Xie Xuanchen waited for two more days, but Xie Yi hadn’t yet kicked down the door to lecture him in the slightest.
