I'm the Villain, But the Heroines Keep Choosing Me Chapter 141

"You’re at eighty-four percent corruption? That’s – you should be completely lost. A monster. How are you even functional?"

"Because corruption isn’t what you think it is. It’s not degradation into evil. It’s clarity. Seeing the world without comfortable illusions, making choices based on actual outcomes rather than moral performance."

Lyristae’s voice was calm, rational, completely coherent despite carrying corruption that should have destroyed her humanity.

"I don’t go around committing atrocities. I don’t hurt people for pleasure or power. I just see reality clearly enough to make the right sacrifices when necessary."

"The right sacrifices," Seria repeated. "Like pushing Damien to corrupt himself for your purposes."

"For his survival. Which yes, also serves my purposes. I’m not pretending to be altruistic." Lyristae deactivated the crystal. "But you need to understand – ’false idealistic morality bullshit’ is what gets people killed. Real morality requires accepting that sometimes you sacrifice comfort for effectiveness. That sometimes the good choice looks wrong from the outside but saves lives in practice."

"This is what you’ve been teaching him," Elara realized. "The moral complexity, the questioning of established truths. You’ve been preparing him to think like you do at eighty-four percent corruption."

"I’ve been preparing him to survive. At fifty percent, he’ll start seeing what I see. Understanding why conventional morality is a trap that serves political systems rather than actual good." Lyristae moved closer to them. "And you can either help him through that transition, or you can cling to who he was and watch him die trying to be that person."

"You keep saying he’ll die," Seria said. "But you won’t explain how you know that. Won’t give us concrete information that would let us verify your claims."

"Because the explanation requires accepting things about the nature of reality that you’re not prepared for. Things that would make you question everything, possibly break the anchor bonds through sheer cognitive dissonance." Lyristae’s expression was almost sympathetic. "I’m protecting you by keeping you ignorant. Trust me, that’s a kindness."

"We don’t trust you," Elara said flatly. "You’ve admitted to manipulation. You’ve pushed Damien toward corruption that serves your interests. You’ve systematically undermined our relationship while claiming to support him. Why would we trust anything you say?"

"Because despite all that, I’m telling you the truth now. When I could lie, when I could continue manipulating from the shadows, I’m being honest about my corruption levels, my motivations, my knowledge of what’s coming." Lyristae’s voice was steady. "I’m giving you the choice with full information. Keep Damien safe and watch him die, or help him become dangerous and give him a chance at survival."

They stood in tense silence, processing implications they didn’t want to accept.

"Even if we believe you," Seria said slowly, "even if we accept that higher corruption is necessary for his survival – why you? Why are you the one pushing this? You barely know him. You have your own kingdom to worry about. What makes Damien’s survival important enough that you’d reveal this much, risk this much, invest this much effort?"

"That’s the real question, isn’t it?" Lyristae’s expression was complicated – pain and affection and determination mixing together. "Why do I care so much about some noble from a minor kingdom? Why invest months of effort in preparing him? Why risk my own position by pushing him toward choices his anchors oppose?"

"Why?" Elara asked quietly.

Lyristae looked at them both, and something in her carefully maintained composure cracked.

The queen’s mask fell away, revealing raw emotion underneath.

"Because I’m in love with him," she said simply. "Have been since the moment I saw him in that palace corridor many re-do’s ago, carrying corruption he was desperately trying to control while maintaining enough humanity to actually care about the people he was protecting. I’m in love with his strategic mind and his stubborn refusal to accept defeat and the way he fights to stay himself despite everything pushing him toward darkness. I’m in love with what he is and what he could become if he survives long enough to reach his potential."

The admission hung in the air, absolute and unvarnished.

"And before you say it’s just strategic positioning or manipulation – yes, I’ve been pursuing him. Yes, I’ve used every technique I know to create connection and dependency - just like he did with you. But you both know the foundation is real. The emotion is genuine. I love him." Her voice was steady despite the vulnerability of the confession. "And I will do whatever it takes to keep him alive. Including corrupting him past what you’re comfortable with. Including positioning myself as the person who understands him when you can’t. Including becoming the villain in your story if that’s what his survival requires."

Seria and Elara stared at her, completely blindsided by the raw honesty.

"You’re serious," Elara breathed. "You actually – "

"I’m serious. I’ve been in love with him longer than you know, through circumstances you can’t imagine, across iterations of – " She stopped abruptly. "I’ve loved him long enough to know exactly what’s at stake if he dies. And I won’t let that happen. Not again."

"Not again?" Seria’s tactical mind latched onto the phrase. "What does that mean?"

"It means you have a choice to make." Lyristae’s composure was returning, queen’s mask sliding back into place. "Help me prepare him for what’s coming. Support the corruption increase even though it terrifies you. Accept that sometimes love means pushing someone to become something difficult because the alternative is losing them entirely. Or fight me, cling to who he was, and watch him die being the person you wanted him to stay."

She moved to the door, clearly ending the conversation.

"You have until the assault begins to decide. After that, events will force the choice regardless of what you prefer." She paused at the threshold. "And for what it’s worth – I’m not trying to replace you. I know what you mean to him. What the anchor bonds provide. I just want to be part of keeping him alive. If that means being the third anchor, the controversial connection, the one who loves him from the shadows while you love him in the light – I’ll accept that role. As long as he survives."

She left them alone in the secured war room, her confession echoing in the silence.

Seria looked at Elara. "Did that just happen?"

"A queen just confessed she’s in love with Damien and has been manipulating reality itself to keep him alive across multiple iterations of events we don’t understand." Elara’s voice was faint. "Yes. It did."

"What do we do?"

"I have absolutely no idea."

They sat in stunned silence, trying to process a revelation that had turned everything they thought they understood completely inside out.

Lyristae loved Damien. Not strategically. Not politically. Actually, genuinely loved him.

And believed he would die without corruption levels that would fundamentally change who he was.

The question was whether they believed her.

And if they did – what they were willing to accept to keep him alive.
