Ye Fan slapped the table and abruptly stood up, demanding, “Which country concocted this?”
Mo Shang responded, “We don’t have concrete evidence on which country is behind it yet.”
Ye Fan sat back down.
Mo Shang continued, “The Ebola virus was first identified in 1976 in the southern part of Sudan and in the Ebola River region of Congo (formerly known as Zaire). This virus targets humans and primates, is highly infectious and has an extremely high mortality rate.”
“After the initial outbreak that killed over a hundred people, three years later (in 1979), Ebola ravaged Sudan again, resulting in a grisly scene of corpses scattered everywhere. After two bouts of this ‘atrocity,’ the Ebola virus mysteriously disappeared for 15 years, becoming virtually invisible. In 1994 and 1995, it re-emerged unexpectedly, claiming hundreds of lives. Then, after more than nineteen years, there was a significant outbreak again just recently, causing over seven thousand deaths.”
Mo Shang continued, “During the initial Ebola outbreaks, our country was not truly involved due to insufficient medical and economic resources. This time, however, the major outbreak of Ebola virus has prompted our unprecedented deep involvement because we have significant interests in Africa. Our country has invested more manpower, materials, and financial resources in controlling the epidemic than any other country in the world.”
“Because of our deep involvement in this Ebola outbreak, we’ve found some clues,” Mo Shang said. “After searching for over half a year, we’ve finally discovered the true origin of the Ebola virus.”
“We found a mysterious underground facility,” Mo Shang revealed.
Ye Fan interjected, “Is our mission to demolish that nefarious underground facility to prevent a further outbreak of Ebola?”
“No, that’s not our main objective,” Mo Shang stated.
Ye Fan couldn’t help but be surprised.
Mo Shang explained, “The Ebola virus was just something that accidentally leaked from that mysterious underground biochemical research facility. The facility harbors earth-shattering secrets. Our mission is to obtain all the data from that underground biochemical research facility and escort it back to our country, as well as to completely demolish the facility.”
“Hmm,” Ye Fan acknowledged.
Mo Shang lightly tapped the keyboard with her finger, causing the enormous LCD screen’s image to enlarge until a country called Central Africa occupied the entire screen.
“Is that mysterious underground biochemical research facility in Central Africa?” Ye Fan asked.
“Exactly, in Central Africa!” Mo Shang confirmed.
While standing up and picking up a pointer, she walked towards the large LCD screen and extended the teaching stick.
“Family Head, please look,” She Said, pressing the remote control, and the map immediately shrank back to the whole African continent. She continued to point with the pointer, “The first outbreak of Ebola happened in the southern part of Sudan and in the Ebola River area of Congo, and the second and third outbreaks, as well as the most recent major outbreak areas in West African countries such as Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria, are all bordering or near Central Africa. Ebola outbreaks have occurred almost all around the countries of Central Africa except for Central Africa itself where the virus never truly broke out.”
“We’ve lost more than a dozen elites, but finally, we’ve discovered the Ebola virus origin point and the mysterious biochemical research base in the Mamboumu province of Central Africa, near the border with Congo (Kinshasa), on the grasslands of Rafai!”
Mo Shang pressed the remote again, restoring the map to Central Africa. Ye fan saw a black skull marked on a grassland near the southeast corner of Mamboumu province, close to the border with Congo (Kinshasa).
“Here is the mysterious underground biochemical research base,” Mo Shang pointed out the black skull with the pointer.
Mo Shang turned around and walked back to the tactical sand table in the center of the command hall.
Ye Fan’s gaze landed on the massive simulation sand table, and he immediately recognized that the sand table was in fact a topographical map of Rafai City in the Mumbomu Province of Central Asia.
He had crisscrossed Africa for years and was more familiar with the maps of its nations than those of his own country.
“That mysterious underground biochemical base, we call it the Kumogo Underground Biochemical Base,” Mo Shang said.
Ye Fan nodded, understanding that the biochemical base was named after the grasslands where it was located.
“The Kumogo Underground Biochemical Base has been operational for a long time, amassing formidable military strength,” Mo Shang spoke solemnly. “By conservative estimate, it is hiding at least two armed helicopters, five tanks, several military armored vehicles, and the numbers of artillery and machine guns are unknown, with a personnel force of around three thousand.”
Hearing this, Ye Fan inwardly took a sharp breath. Such an arsenal could directly annihilate many of the smaller African nations.
“Boss, this is the detailed reconnaissance report on the Kumogo Underground Biochemical Base,” at this moment, Leopard handed over a report that was four to five centimeters thick.
Ye Fan took the bulky document, flipped through it briefly, then closed it.
“This matter is of great importance, and the mission is daunting; we need to make a long-term plan,” he said as he stood up.
That report was so voluminous, and the information within so crucial, that it would take at least a full day of careful reading to get through. He had just flown half the globe to get here; there was no way he could finish reading the material immediately without rest.
Besides, this mission did not have an urgently pressing timeline.
“Yes, boss!” Leopard and Mo Shang said in unison, having expected this response.
Afterwards, Ye Fan carried the documents out of the operations command hall.
Leopard and Mo Shang followed behind him.
“Heh heh, boss, the squad heard you were coming back, so they sent a brother from the Beverage Service to raid the seafood market,” Leopard said with a sycophantic laugh, “Guess what amazing thing we found?”
“What could be so amazing?” Ye Fan asked, “Don’t tell me it’s another lobster weighing six or seven pounds.”
Dar es Salaam wasn’t just Tanzania’s largest and most bustling city; it was also a deep-water harbor town. The Africans’ spending power was much lower than that of the domestic market in China, to say nothing of their lack of enthusiasm for seafood—they didn’t even like it that much, so many premium seafood items were sold off cheaply as if they were cabbage.
Leopard laughed heartily, “It’s a giant turtle weighing over eighty pounds!”
He gestured with his arms wide, miming the size, then laughed and said, “What a beast, it must be over a hundred years old, almost turning into a spirit!”
“And, we only spent two thousand bucks to buy it!” Leopard chuckled in triumph.
Ye Fan couldn’t help being a little excited and laughed, “Haha, then it seems I’m in for a treat tonight.”
Ye Fan and the others joked and laughed as they walked towards the barracks.
When they arrived at the barracks, Ye Fan asked, “Which room am I in?”
“Your old room,” Leopard replied. “Mo Shang has been keeping it clean for you.”
Ye Fan turned and smiled, “Thank you, Mo Shang.”
“It’s what I should do,” Mo Shang responded cheerfully, her usually cold face breaking into a smile.
