Chapter 408: Chapter 274: The Last Link! No Return!
The Sun Church area had fallen silent.
From the roof of a distant building, players who had been peering down through telescopes, purchased from some unknown place, finally put them down and exchanged glances.
“What exactly happened?”
“It seems Jack had a conflict with them. After a brief fight, he disappeared, and the boss of the Red Apple Church and some other bigwigs from the Sun Church also vanished.”
“Never mind that now, just send the video we recorded to the deputy head.”
“Although I don’t understand what Jack did, our mission is already marked as completed, yay!”
At the Shelter building.
Newly appointed Judge Mannan, with a headache, sat frowning in the office previously held by Rudolf Teka.
Mona, expressionless, stood on the other side of the desk, handing over a report just compiled by a subordinate.
“Twenty minutes ago, the Archbishop Lafa of the Red Apple Church attacked Amber City, following attacks on Yellow Iron City and many towns and villages along the way. This is the second major city he has attacked, but he was intercepted by Jack Spett, the leader of the Circus, and a battle ensued.”
“After a fierce fight, Jack ultimately used some method to bring Lafa to the Sun Church area, where His Majesty Terence personally suppressed him.”
She pointed toward the window on the right, where, just two blocks away, the incident had occurred in the Sun Church area.
“So, your conclusion is?”
Mannan probed, querying the newly promoted young woman in front of him.
Mona had become a stationed special envoy and might be transferred to the headquarters in Royal City after some time.
“Jack stopped Lafa, saving Amber City from destruction once again…just like last year’s gallery incident. He is a distinguished leader among the Transcendents and a man of noble character, upholding justice…I recommend him for induction into the Imperial Judgement Group.”
Mannan’s eyebrows arched, then he let out a bitter laugh.
He certainly hadn’t expected such a difficult proposal from Mona.
“Mona, leaving aside that the Imperial Judgement Group primarily recruits internal elites, and considering Jack himself is under suspicion by the Sun Church… this is virtually impossible.”
“Lord Mannan, are you fearful of the Sun Church?”
“Because His Majesty Terence is right beside us, because they have erected the Daytime Obelisk, because they are stronger than us? So we must bow to them?”
A series of questions made Mannan open his mouth. He was just a Judge appointed in a crisis and wanted no part in these muddy waters, but against Mona, a rising star, he was helpless.
Mona took a deep breath and spoke slowly,
“We are Guardians of the Empire, suppressors of the mysterious Sword of Tresor… not subordinates of the Sun Church. We should not act according to their whims!”
He remained silent for a few seconds, then scratched his head.
“Alright, Mona… I’ll try to negotiate with His Majesty Terence, see if there’s a way around this. At the same time, I’ll submit your recommendation letter, but don’t hold too much hope. Lastly, Jack Spett will continue to be under close watch by the Shelter–this too will be his evaluation.”
“Thank you, Lord Mannan.”
Mannan sighed quietly and then waved her off.
Chen Lun’s figure suddenly appeared amid the ruins.
This was his first time using “Cloud Leap,” and the effect was surprisingly good. With just one leap, he had traversed the distance between two cities and instantly returned here.
Floey and Noah, who had been quietly waiting, immediately crowded around him.
“Mr. Jack! Are you alright?”
Noah asked with concern.
Chen Lun touched his head.
“Don’t worry, Noah, I’m fine.”
Floey silently pulled out a black coat and draped it over Chen Lun. His clothes had been burnt during the fight with Lafa, and he had been using his pale Armor as a covering.
Chen Lun smiled at Floey and then said to them,
“Don’t worry, the situation has been dealt with…both of you go and inform Golov and others, then I’ll take everyone and leave this place.”
“Mr. Jack, have you been promoted?”
Noah noticed an even richer mysterious aura surrounding Chen Lun and expressed his surprise.
Chen Lun nodded with a smile.
Floey and Noah both showed genuine joy.
“Now I possess greater mobility, and also the initial strength needed to protect everyone… Although Lafa has been temporarily dealt with, more trouble will follow, and we must leave immediately.”
Chen Lun remarked with a hint of solemnity.
Floey and Noah nodded, replied, and then turned to leave toward Pompey Manor.
Watching their retreating figures fading into the distance, Chen Lun took in his surroundings.
“This manor where I’ve lived for over a year is just gone like that…”
He felt a bit of regret.
There might come a time in the future when he would return here, but this property was now lost.
Lafa’s appearance and the resulting battle caused great destruction and noise, attracting some curious onlookers, but fortunately, the manor’s location was relatively secluded, and not too many spectators had come.
Soon, these curious onlookers were dispersed by officers from the Security Office who had arrived, and the ruins of the manor were cordoned off with caution tape.
