The next morning, the birds chirped in harmony, like they were discussing everything that happened in secret the night before.
Axilla felt her head spinning and she groaned in pain. She covered her face with her hands to shield her eyes from the bright light piercing the room. Her head felt like it was about to split in two.
The bed was so cozy and warm, so she snuggled into it, finding comfort in the softness.
"How convenient," Axilla heard an unfamiliar voice say, but she brushed it off, maybe it was one of those dreams where you hear strange people’s voice. She thought to herself.
"You know, for a maid, you are too comfortable," the voice persisted, this time nudging her to wake up.
Axilla let out a small cry of protest, as she turned to make herself comfortable on the bed.
"Fair lady kindly leave my room now will you?" The voice said again.
"Can I have a moment of peace please?" Axilla whined before she could open her eyes, she felt someone pull away the bed cover she wrapped herself in.
Her eyes flew open immediately, she felt the morning cold bite into her skin.
Standing in front of her was a man....no, Axilla corrected herself,.... An angel. She blinked twice trying to accustom her eyes to the environment she was in.
"What are you doing in my....." Axilla stopped midway in her sentence. She blinked her eyes again continuously, the room was too luxurious to be her room. Come to think of it, the bed was softer than what the maids used. She turned to look at the man again.
"Yes, that’s right, my room," the young man who looked like a noble declared. His voice sounded as sweet as honey, in Axilla’s ear.
Quite alright she was in an unknown man’s room, for all she cares she might have been kidnapped. But her bone of contention was why in the world was he so good looking!. Axilla screamed in her head.
The young man had lashes longer than that of a female, his jawline was sharper than a butcher’s knife. He was not so big but his body was just appropriate. His black hair looked disheveled like he just woke up from sleep, he had some hair falling on his face to cover his deep black eyes. The young man was incredibly handsome.
Ba..dum....What is that sound? Axilla asked herself mentally, she touched her heart. It was like a carnival was going on in there. She gulped the lump in her throat softly as she struggled to find her voice.
"Are we going to let you sit there all day and have your thoughts running amok?" the young man asked, breaking the silence.
Axilla quickly got up and straightened her gown, which was wrinkled. She raised her hand and touched her hair, it felt like a bird’s nest. Axilla cursed under her breathe, why was it today of all days when she was not looking her best that she had to meet this man.
"What did you say?" the man asked, tilting his head as he watched her.
Axilla widened her eyes in shock, did she say her thoughts out loud? She bit her lower lips. "N-nothing, Young master. I- I am sorry for sleeping in your room" Axilla found herself stammering. Was she always a stammerer? she asked herself internally.
"Sleeping in my room, you say? Does that mean you don’t remember last night, woman?" the young man’s face hardened.
Despite his stern expression, Axilla found him even more alluring. She was mesmerized.
"Do you go around throwing yourself at every man you see?" he continued.
When the question was thrown to Axilla, she forgot about her fantasies. The next line of action took even her by surprise.
She found her hand on the man’s cheek and slapped him.
The young master remained still, he was surprised at the girl’s audacity, but he didn’t react.
"I don’t know what happened last night or how I got here. But you don’t get to assume something about a girl you just met, especially one who has never been touched by a man in her life. I was excited last night because I had just become an adult woman and had a sip of alcohol, so don’t label me a whore. I’m sorry I slept in your room, and for all I know, you might have even kidnapped me here. But I forgive you." Axilla poured out all her emotions, she felt tears welling up in her throat, but she refused to break down in front of the man.
After her speech, she bowed and walked out of the room.
Axilla ran to a corner, her heart still pounding. Did she just confess to a stranger that she was still untouched? She mentally scolded herself and knocked her head.
"Maybe he’s just a guest, and I hope he leaves today," Axilla reassured herself.
As she was deep in thought, Felipe, the head eunuch, appeared behind her.
"What are you doing there?" he asked.
Axilla came up with another lie. "Oh, I had cramps while running, so I decided to rest."
Felipe noticed that she had just woken up and that her uniform and hair were not in proper order.
"Go get dressed for today’s work, then head to the princess’s chamber to prepare her for breakfast," he instructed before leaving.
Axilla nodded, she heaved a sigh of relief when she heard she’ll be serving the princess. She started walking to her own room, she quickly washed her face and changed her uniform. She made her way to the princess’s chamber.
Far away from Axilla’s room, Kitanna lay on her bed, she wanted to stay in bed all day. Because standing up meant she will face Nix. And she was so no ready.
The thought of Nix, sent blood rushing up to her neck.
Kitanna felt her cheeks burn crimson, she rolled on the bed cursing herself out for acting out of the ordinary last night.
When Axilla entered the room, she noticed the princess was still on the bed which was unlike her. Axilla moved to tap the princess.
"Good morning, Princess Kitanna" Axilla said softly.
Kitanna stood up, she looked at Axilla. The both of them had something in common. The blush on their cheek.
