Knights and Magic Wand Chapter 787

Rousseau adjusted his glasses and asked confusedly, "What is it?"

"I might know the truth about this so-called ’Breath Disease’ that’s driving all creatures in the world towards extinction. I need to verify my hypothesis on a patient," Leon answered calmly.

Rousseau’s old face showed astonishment.

The female officer also glanced over again.

"Are you saying there’s a way to cure the Breath Disease?" The old man’s hand trembled slightly with excitement.

However, Leon shook his head frankly.

"I don’t know how to cure the Breath Disease, I just said...perhaps I know the cause of this world’s mass extinction."

Rousseau’s expression became solemn: "What do you want us to do to cooperate?"

"Please provide a volunteer who is seriously ill; I will verify my hypothesis under your supervision," Leon replied.

Without any pretentiousness or hesitation, Rousseau immediately gave a serious order to the commander of the refuge.

Soon, the door opened, and several soldiers entered the hall carrying a stretcher with a middle-aged man lying on it who was nearly comatose.

The soldiers faithfully executed the order. This was a survivor about to walk the last phase of life in the isolation room. Once he drew his last breath, the soldiers would burn his body to avoid corpse transformation.

There was no sorrow on the faces of the survivors present. This scene, whether it happened to strangers, familiar relatives, or millions of kinsmen, people had seen it countless times in these three years.

Witnessing how the race is little by little heading to extinction, as civilization is perishing now, the survivors have become virtually numb to life and death.

Leon walked to the stretcher, crouched down, inspecting the patient whose breath was weak and with sweat soaking his forehead.

He grasped the other’s wrist while drawing a Dharma Seal, pointing his fingers at his own brow.

A golden single-eyed Demon Rune appeared on Leon’s forehead.

Those around couldn’t help but whisper about the light and patterns emerging on Leon’s forehead.

Leon remained focused, not to transfer his limited magic power, but rather reversing the magic power transmission structure, akin to some sinister spell, carefully extracting the life energy linked on the other side.

Perception seeped into the patient’s body, and Leon immediately sensed the very faint energy surge within the patient’s blood and tortured, failing organs...

Indeed, that’s the case.

With a thought, that thread of energy, like a trickle, entered Leon’s body under the guidance of magic power conduction.

In just a brief second, he had drained the sparse power from the other’s body. Leon quickly withdrew his hand, severing the spell connection, and observed the patient’s reaction.

The man on the stretcher, whose breath was as faint as a thread, had visibly more apparent chest rising and falling, and even his breathing became much steadier.

Before long, the man, who seemed burned into deep coma, surprisingly woke up and opened his eyes.

(In Tasa Language) "I...water...water..."

The patient, pale-faced and somewhat bewildered, spoke in plea.

The survivors suddenly burst into commotion, and several soldiers hurried forward, taking off their water canisters from their waists, and fed the patient who was originally at death’s door.

Rousseau’s old face couldn’t hide his ecstasy.

"You’ve saved him! Can you cure this dreadful disease?!" The old man’s voice began to tremble as he increasingly believed in his prophetic dream.

The female officer in the distance was equally moved.

She hurried over, crouching to check the patient’s pupils and teeth to confirm any signs of bloodline transformation or mutation.

Afterward, the female officer gazed at Leon with suspicion and wonder.

But Leon shook his head at the two, whose eyes were filled with excitement.

"Regrettably, I can’t truly cure him. This is at most just alleviating his pain; before long, he will again endure the previous ’symptoms’." Discover more novels at novel·fıre·net

"Why is that?" Rousseau’s joy turned into confusion.

The female officer, like grabbing a lifeline, drastically changed her attitude: "Please tell us the truth you know. We have little left now, but whatever you need, I will surely find it for you! No matter what it takes! As long as we can cure this damned terminal illness!"

Leon turned to look at the woman, shaking his head: "I don’t need anything in return; it’s fine to tell you directly, as gratitude for Mr. Rousseau’s prior help."

But after getting up, he couldn’t help but ask the two, "Did you ever find out what the source causing the Breath Disease is?"

"You mean, the ’Doomsday Factor’ filled in the patients’ bodies?" Rousseau solemnly responded.

Upon hearing this, Leon raised an eyebrow: "So you know that a particular element causes the Breath Disease? Then why haven’t any measures been taken against it?"

The female officer straightened up, letting her subordinates take care of the awakened patient, her expression exceedingly grim: "Measures? Ha, three years ago, when international scholars first discovered this ’factor’ in nature, it was even called the greatest discovery of our era. Until the cloudy heavenly phenomena and the Breath Disease it triggered swept the world overnight.

I don’t know how other countries reacted, but in my homeland, the very last scholars, before sacrificing themselves, exhausted every possible means but couldn’t interfere with this element in patients’ bodies artificially.

It seemed as if from the moment it appeared in the world, it has existed in all substances, even in a vacuum, where the air is drained, the ’Doomsday Factor’ still exists, we can’t even achieve physical isolation from it."
