Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams Chapter 43

Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Missiles Power

The soldiers brought out the missile and assembled it rapidly. The worm turned it massive mouth towards them.

Purple poison mist spewed out of it. He looked at Viona who grinned and swung her great sword like a bat.

A wave of fire spread out and incinerated the poison mist, the flames continued and burnt the worm.

However it only suffered minor burn wounds. Viona was about to pounce on it when he grabbed her shoulder.

" Not so fast little lady, let me try my little baby first." The soldiers finished assembling the missile.

It was huge and needed tripods to stand on. Khali pulled the trigger himself. The missile shot out.

They watched it go leaving a streak of fire behind it. It reached the worm in a split moment and blew up.

Cecilia and Lucas casted barriers. Flames exploded and rose to the sky like a mushroom cloud, it incinerated all the monsters for a hundred metres around it.

A shockwave of hot air followed killing even more monsters. With it came waves of sand that seemed to want to drown everything.

The shockwave reached them and for the first time Viona used barrier magic. It was the same spell he gave Lucas.

He didn’t even know she had learnt it. A wall of fire 20 metres tall and 50 wide appeared Infront of them.

The flames felt solid to the touch and hot enough to burn steel. Fire barriers were not as solid as earth or even wind barriers.

But they could burn everything they touched so they worked well enough. The shockwave collided with the barrier and dispersed.

The sand melted the moment it touched the wall of fire. Everything dies down and she put down her barrier as well.

She didn’t look happy to have done that, last they talked she said she didn’t like barrier magic.

She preferred offence magic like fireballs. Unlike him she did learn a few spells related to her fire element.

When the dust cleared they saw the worm laying on a massive crater of glass. The missile explosion was so hot it turned the sand to glass.

The other monsters died as well, either from the flames or shockwave but nothing within a few hundred metres of the explosion remained alive.

Not even the beetles with their hard armour. Khali frowned when he saw the glass. It was pitch black.

It looked more like obsidian stone than glass. He jumped to the desert and walked directly to the corpse of the worm.

It had been blown to pieces and scattered everywhere. He ignored it and touched the black glass.

Then he laughed, at the edges of the crater where the worm lay dead there was a bit of green glass.

This black glass was the result of the worms blood but he had to admit it was quite impressive.

The glass was harder than steel and incredibly sharp yet still brittle, it truly felt like obsidian stone.

He grabbed the corpse and tried to pull it out, they couldn’t eat this thing anyways so he planned to have Viona incinerate it.

When he pulled, it easily came out but it was shorter than he had expected until he realised it was cut off.

He laughed softly, " I should’ve expected this." He told Viona to destroy it then went to talk to Samantha.

There were things he did not understand that made no sense. " Samantha, Drago, I need to speak to you."

The two were quiet and still looking at the corpse of the worm. He snapped his fingers drawing their attention.

" Ah, I’m sorry I’m sorry, it’s just..too much." Samantha apologised and Drago nodded with her.

They followed him inside, " I was told in the Red Sun empire, glass is rare and special." They both nodded.

" How?" They looked confused, he took out the green glass shards and gave it to them. Samantha took it then looked at him.

" You’re telling mere fire mages haven’t figured out how to make that in a world covered in sand."

They both looked at him with blank stares then started laughing, " When we’re talking about glass we don’t mean this."

He raised his eyebrows, " That is glass." They both shook their heads and laughed at him.

" This is called a glass ore in the empire, real glass is clear and sometimes have other colours as decoration."

He nodded and took the shard back, he now understood why this glass had no value, for the same reason rocks don’t hold much value.

Any fire mage can make this but very few know how to remove impurities from the raw material.

He had to admit, the sands here had a lot of iron, the glass shard looked more like jade than glass.

Not even the clear jade, it was dark green. It was inconceivable that glass would have that many iron oxide particles.

" So who has monopoly to glass, I heard you talking about merchants, do they pass here?"

Samantha nodded, " They do come through here every few years. Traveling is treacherous and usually requires the protection of many acolyte or knights.

In rare occasions they might get to travel alongside a paladin or true mage but that is very rare."

" Why is that?" He asked, she raised an eyebrow like he had just ask the dumbest question.

" Because those are the top experts in the world, it’s the highest realm below that of the king himself."

He nodded, ’ So this world has a berserker or Great Mage, perhaps it’s not as weak as I thought it was.’

He should mention that beserkers and great mages/ rank 4 was the first realm where one is able to survive in outer space.

It’s not enough for space travel but one can still survive for some time in space. With knowledge of a such a powerhouse.

He had to take this empire more seriously than before. He would need to know more about them to see if they’ll stand in his way or not.

And if it comes down to it, how to take them down. " How much do you know about the empire?" He asked.

" I used to be a mercenary, my group travelled around the entire empire." Drago answered in a somber tone.

Khali smiled at him, " My good friend Drago, why don’t you tell me all about your adventures."
