Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams Chapter 5

The humans listened and immediately started praying. Divine energy poured into him.

From the gaps came the wraiths, they were humanoid creatures clad in tattered black robes with hoodies whose facial features were unclear.

The only thing visible on that faces were their huge mouths with razor sharp teeth that looked like needles. Claws so sharp they looked like they can cut stone.

They had no legs as their lower parts looked like tattered strips of their robes. They screeched and lunged at him.

He knew physical attacks weren’t enough to kill these things so using divine energy he coated his sword in flames.

The first wraith reached him, he swung his sword and cut it in half. It screeched in pain and disappeared into a puff of black smoke.

He grinned, these wraith were still very weak, not even rank 1 which is equivalent to initiate for mages and squire for warriors.

Even a normal humans can defeat them with fire. However there were two many of them and he couldn’t stop all of them.

He was forced to use over 200 points of divine energy to create a barrier around the humans.

The wraiths failed to break through the golden divine barrier, however Khaladrel wasn’t happy.

Keeping the barrier active cost a lot, a divine energy points for each second. Fortunately their prayers generated more points than that each second.

So he wasn’t at a massive loss. He kept killing the wraiths but with every kill the flames around his sword were consumed.

He had to use more divine energy to ignite it again which pained him even though it cost him only 2 points each time.

Then the rocks Infront of the cave entrance were sent flying. In came a huge white-grey skinned creature.

The creature was almost as tall as he was, it back was hunched like a hyena even though it back legs were longer, they were bent very low like a frog.

It had a round head that had pure white eyes and no nose but four fanned ears like wings of a bat. It mouth was so huge it almost reached it ears.

It was filled with rows of sharp teeth like a shark. He recognised these creatures, these humans called them clickers but he knew them by another name.

Night Hounds which was unfitting for creatures without a sense of smell but their hearing was impeccable.

They can hear a heartbeat from hundreds of metres away, at least that was true for stronger ones.

These ones were weaker and they were young, the amount of mana inside them was not even enough to qualify them as rank 1 creatures.

However he knew more were coming, they never work alone, outside he can already hear the clicking of others.

The one that came in first clicked once, using echo location it located him immediately.

Without a moment wasted it lunged at him, he empowered his arm with divine energy and swung his sword.

His strength had increased by many times, that single swing took off it head, then he swung left killing two wraiths.

More wraiths and more clickers rushed into the cave, some lunged towards him, others towards the humans but the barrier stopped them dead in their tracks.

However he noticed an issue, the more they attacked the barrier the faster it divine energy was used up.

He had to use more of it each second to maintain the barrier. The humans started praying faster and louder, their prayers reverberated through the clicks and screeches.

He ran around the cave killing wraiths and clickers alike. One clicker jumped and lunged at him.

It long hind legs gave it a powerful jump, he also jumped into the air, spun around and cut off the head of clicker next to him.

Then kicked back and hit the head of the clicker lunging at him, his leg was empowered by divine energy.

It strength was more than what the creature can handle. The kick cracked it skull and by the time it hit the ground it was already dead.

A wraith tried to sneak attack him from behind, he stabbed over his shoulder and killed it.

He ran around the cave like he was dancing, his flaming sword drew arcs across the air like a beautiful tapestry.

Each second a wraith or clicker died to his sword leaving smoke or corpse behind but he was not happy.

These things didn’t seem to have an end, no matter how many he killed they just kept coming and coming.

Even with his power and divine energy, his body was actually weak and couldn’t handle such a strain forever.

The divine energy enhancement alone was not enough to completely eliminate the fatigue.

If only he had somebody to... Then he stopped, he checked his divine energy points and he had over 800 now.

It would’ve been three times more had he not been using it constantly. He gritted his teeth and used 400 points to create a sword like the one he had.

Then used 150 to heal Viona, he used 5 to send a message to her pretending it was from the God statue.

’ Child, brave and noble child, I have heard your prayers and recognise your bravery and heroism, take this sword I have blessed you with and eliminate all evil in my name.’

Viona looked surprised then her body started shaking from excitement. She bowed even lower.

" Great and powerful God, this unworthy child has heard your command, I will not disappoint you."

She picked up the flaming sword. The others looked at her with confusion but they saw the sword that came out of thin air and figured what happened.

They prayed even harder in hoype to be noticed by their God, unfortunately for them that God would never waste divine energy unless he deemed necessary.

Khaladrel felt the pressure lessened on him with her assistance. Even though she wasn’t too strong she was as strong if not stronger than a clicker.

Her smaller body and better skills allowed her to kill multiple of them not to mention the much weaker wraiths.

She looked at him and grinned. Khaladrel knew a challenge when he saw one. ’ Competing with me? Let see what you’ve got little girl.’ he thought with a smirk.

He started killing them like he was in a frenzy.
