Life in North America, you call this an autopsy officer?! Chapter 270

"Mycroft got entangled in the case?"

The indifferent middle-aged man’s face showed some astonishment.

He pulled out a piece of stationery and with a tremble of his hand, the soft paper seemed to become a stiff flying card, cutting a spinning arc and accurately appearing in front of Brian.

Brian’s fingers precisely pinched the edge of the paper, flipping through it.

This was Mycroft’s suicide confession:

I regret falling in love with a woman I shouldn’t have loved.

For her, I did some disgusting things.

Stop the investigation.

The Mason couple, it was I who killed them.

His wife, through my lover, learned some things about me, pressured me to give her the rejuvenation procedure.

This is a risky medical technique not yet on the market, and the process is somewhat cruel, but for the sake of my lover’s reputation, I chose to compromise and operate against the rules...

After the procedure, the effects were good, she got what she wanted.

I thought it would end there, but they made new demands...

I knew, if this continued, it would be an endless abyss, so I took advantage of a follow-up visit to get the keys to their residence and ended up killing them, even deliberately arranging some doubts...

The matter started because of me and will end with me.

Brian casually tossed the paper back into the man’s hand, "Your gun skills must be pretty good."

The middle-aged indifferent man, feeling the same finesse and precision on the paper as his own from just before, squeezed out an unsightly smile, "Yes, my name’s Merlin, my marksmanship is indeed passable, but Mycroft was our NW research department’s specially appointed technical consultant. Let’s put an end to this case."

"So the case involves some NW internal staff?"

"The NW Special Service Department only launches investigations into cases of homicide against official NW staff.

After we arrived, we immediately used our authority to comprehensively investigate Mycroft’s finances, movements, etc., and discovered that he and some internal researchers established a medical institution called Black Light Technology.

Many of the projects at Black Light Medical are medical technologies that have been phased out internally, but they can be used to harvest from the middle class, which is not considered a violation.

However, Mycroft chose to commit suicide; there must be other issues involved.

We will investigate it."

Brian shook his head outright:

"The reasons are not sufficient, buddy. You should be able to see that Mycroft’s suicide is only to conceal for someone; he is not the murderer of the homicide case, the woman behind him is.

He committed suicide.

The woman was then protected.

Protection in a double sense.

If I’m not mistaken, the Mason couple should be clients developed by the person Mycroft was protecting.

The real murderer should be someone who secretly stole Mycroft’s medical achievements, something probably went wrong in the process, and then this foolish woman went and killed the others, hoping to silence them while framing Mycroft.

I speculate that the murderer is Mycroft’s wife."

With that, Brian’s gaze fell on a shoe that had tumbled and turned upside down on the ground.

The pattern and imprint on the bottom of the shoe were identical to Mycroft’s shoes, the size also a perfect match.

Brian saw on the underside of the shoe some very faint, almost invisible to the naked eye and hard to smell bloodstains.

He gave Green, who was a bit confused, a signal with his eyes: "Take this pair of shoes as evidence for our case."

This pair of shoes had likely been used to fabricate evidence at the Mason couple’s murder scene.

Although Green was somewhat bewildered listening, he obediently gloved up, took out a large transparent bag, and in front of several people from the Special Service Department, bagged the shoes.

Seeing this, Merlin sighed, "You’re very smart, but everyone’s dead, and some things are not suitable for further investigation; they could bring trouble for you. We’ll handle it."

Brian glanced over Mycroft’s corpse, his nose twitched lightly, and his brows furrowed slightly.

The scent and pheromones emanating from Mycroft’s corpse were different from before.

There was something wrong with the body.

This was perhaps the reason why Merlin and his team, after arriving, hadn’t touched the corpse.

To be honest, lacking sufficient information, Brian was a bit confused about the case himself.

After thinking it over, he ventured, "I’m not interested in things outside the case, but there won’t be a problem if we take Mycroft’s wife, right?"

"No problem, that foolish woman killed one of our talents.

Mycroft had great talent in the field of human body research.

This is a loss for NW.

We have no objections if you go after that foolish woman.

Our bottom line is Mycroft’s corpse and research materials."

Relieved at Brian’s words, Merlin let out a sigh of relief.

This stuff couldn’t be leaked out; the rest didn’t matter.

Mycroft thought he could commit suicide to save that woman, a bit too naive.

This was a common problem among many researchers.

Mycroft may have been very powerful academically but didn’t understand one principle: A person is of value only while they are alive and can negotiate.

So far, Brian hadn’t formed a clear understanding of NW’s internal structure and power dynamics, and he didn’t want to waste time and energy on such matters at the moment.

He made a show of crossing himself in front of Mycroft’s body, collected the Obsession Little Ball, and then, with Green, headed back to the conference room and, with the pretext of evidence, took the ink wash landscape painting that was hanging on the wall.
