Lifespan Burning System: Master Everything by Burning Lifespan! Chapter 90

The five heirs, the celebrated heroes of the Azure Province, flew on their fastest spiritual beasts to the Eon Emporium.

The reports had prepared them for a cleared road and a renamed town, but nothing could have prepared them for the sight that greeted them when they crested the final ridge overlooking the Silverwood valley.

The town was gone. In its place was a gaping, perfectly circular hole in the earth, a wound in the world so vast it defied comprehension.

And floating a thousand feet above that hole, held aloft by the hands of a colossal, stone-like being, was an island.

On that island, a city was being built. It was a city of impossible scale and design, its dark towers and crystalline structures reaching towards the sky.

The five heirs brought their beasts to a halt, their minds struggling to process the impossible sight.

The sheer, world-altering power required to perform such a feat was beyond anything they could imagine.

The power of their ancestors, the legends of their families, all of it seemed like a child’s game compared to this.

"By the ancestors..." Aiden Thorne whispered in awe.

Daemon Azure’s face was pale. He looked at the Titan, at the city it held, and he knew. A direct confrontation was not just foolish; it was suicide.

Their only hope was to understand the will of the being who commanded such power.

"We go," he said, his voice firm, though his heart hammered in his chest. "We meet him on his terms."

They flew towards the floating island. As they approached, a path opened for them.

A squad of Ashen Vindicators, their silver eyes glowing with a cold, disciplined light, stood aside, their shadow lances held at a perfect, uniform angle.

It was not a welcome; it was a demonstration of absolute control.

They landed in a large, open plaza in the centre of the city. The air here was different, cleaner, filled with a pure, potent energy that made their own Qi feel crude and sluggish.

"Formations... and high-level ones at that," Anya muttered.

Rhys was waiting for them. He was not seated on a grand throne or surrounded by a court of sycophants. He stood on a half-finished construction platform, looking over a set of glowing blueprints.

He wore the simple, dark clothes of a craftsman, his grey cloak draped over his shoulders. His face was unmasked, his features sharp and handsome, his pitch-black eyes holding a calm, ancient depth.

Sera sat on a nearby pile of Celestial Ore, happily munching on a candy.

He looked up as they approached, his gaze sweeping over them. It was not the look of an enemy, or a rival. It was the look of a master craftsman inspecting a set of tools.

Daemon stepped forward, swallowing his pride. He was a prince, the future emperor, but here, in this impossible city, he was just a visitor. He gave a slight, formal bow.

"I am Daemon Azure. We have come to speak with the new lord of this... city."

Rhys gave a slight nod. "I know. And this is not a city. It is a capital."

The simple declaration, delivered with absolute certainty, sent a chill down their spines.

"What do you want?" Daemon asked, cutting straight to the heart of the matter. It was the only question that mattered.

Rhys turned from his blueprints and looked at them, truly looked at them, for the first time.

"What do I want?" he repeated, a faint, almost imperceptible smile touching his lips. "I want what you have failed to achieve. I want to end the age of petty squabbles and stagnant power. I want to unify this province."

Aiden Thorne snorted. "Unify? You mean conquer. You want to destroy our families and take everything for yourself."

"Destroy your families?" Rhys shook his head, a look of genuine pity in his eyes. "If I wanted to destroy you, we would not be chatting now."

Everyone felt their blood run cold.

Rhys breathed in.

"Why would I destroy such useful tools? You see this province as a collection of territories to be fought over. I see it as a single, inefficient machine that is rusted and broken.

The great families are the gears of that machine. For centuries, you have been grinding against each other, wearing yourselves down, achieving nothing.

The beast tide almost shattered you. It was a lesson you have clearly failed to learn."

He gestured to the vast, open sky around them.

"You fight for control of this small, forgotten corner of the world. You call it the Azure Province. Do you know what the people of the Mainland, the real centres of power, call this place?"

He paused, letting his words hang in the air.

"They call it the Wastelands. A primitive, backward land filled with weak cultivators and third-rate resources. Your entire world is a joke to them."

The heirs stared at him, stunned into silence. They had heard from ancient texts about a world beyond the Whisperwood, but they had always dismissed them as myths.

To hear it stated so plainly, so dismissively, was a profound shock.

"Your families are not my enemies," Rhys continued, his voice taking on the tone of a teacher explaining a simple concept to a group of slow children.

"They are my future departments. The Ashton clan, with its long military history, will become the foundation of the Conglomerate’s army, under my direct command.

The Sterling family will oversee the Alchemist’s Guild, refining the resources I provide them into potions that can change the very nature of cultivation.

The Thorne family will manage trade and logistics, expanding our economic reach.

The Crestfalls will establish the new Academy, breaking your monopoly on knowledge.

And the Azure family," he looked directly at Daemon, "will be the administrative heart, a government that ensures the smooth operation of the entire machine."

He was not offering them destruction. He was offering them a promotion. He was offering to take their small, competing kingdoms and forge them into the pillars of a single, unified empire.

"You want us to become your lackeys," Aiden growled, though his voice lacked its earlier conviction. The sheer scale of Rhys’s vision was beginning to overwhelm him.

"Do you have any other options? I can simply raise up another family and replace you, even if it would take me a few years."

But no.

"I want you to become leaders," Rhys corrected him. "You are the Five Young Heroes. The people love you. They will follow you. You will be the faces of this new era.

You will retain your authority, your status. But you will no longer be fighting each other for scraps. You will be working together, under my guidance, to build something far greater than your families could ever achieve on their own."

He began to walk along the edge of the platform, his gaze fixed on the distant horizon.

"My ambition is not this province. This province is merely a starting point, a resource base. The Eon Conglomerate will not be a provincial power. It will be a world power. We will cross the Whisperwood. We will sail the Endless Ocean.

We will stand on the Mainland, not as barbarians from the Wastelands, but as a new, undeniable force. We will challenge the great sects, the ancient empires. We will carve out a place for ourselves on the world stage."
