Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth Chapter 506

The last time there was a transfer in first team, it was David.

David was only a Detective Chief, and the impact was localized; Susan was different, she was the captain of the first team, and her influence was much greater.

Susan wouldn't leave immediately; for the next few days, she would be handing over her work to Luke.

As the saying goes, "New rulers appoint new ministers." With the old captain leaving and a new captain taking over, everyone's approach to handling cases would be different.

The advantage of an internal promotion is that everyone is already rather familiar with each other, down to the bottom of their hearts, which would greatly shorten the team's period of acclimatization and adaptation.

Among these, the attitude of Vincent, the deputy captain, was very key.

This old man had been in the Robbery and Murder Department for many years and could be said to be one of the veterans. If his approval could be obtained, other team members likely wouldn't have any objections.

More importantly, this old man was a thorn; although he was getting on in years, not only had his temper not mellowed—it had gotten worse. If he was dissatisfied with the newly appointed captain, he would definitely make his feelings known.

While Luke was preparing for Susan's farewell party, he was also handling the work handover.

When an old leader is transferred, especially to a more important position, it is inevitable that one might need their help in the future, so a farewell party was a must.

However, Susan's personality was relatively reserved; she might not fancy a too lively farewell party. After discussing with others, Luke and his colleagues eventually decided to go Dutch and treat Susan to dinner.

It indeed wasn't very innovative, but it suited Susan well.

The work handover lasted nearly a week, mainly because there were many cumbersome case dossiers and reports.

On September 9, Friday, the official handover was completed.

Everyone at Alome Restaurant held a farewell party for Susan.

Besides the members of the first team, the farewell party also invited Deputy Chief Reid, second team Captain Chen Kelin, and David.

Luke had invited David for two reasons: first, David was previously part of the first team, and second, he was a standard thorn. It was necessary to leave a good impression on Susan.

Everyone was seated around an oval long table, covered with an array of dishes. Susan picked up a glass of red wine, "Everyone, thank you for the farewell party. It's very thoughtful.

Everyone here is well acquainted, and we've already said much about farewells in the past few days, so I don't want to repeat.

What I want to say is, no matter in which department or position I am, I will always be a member of the LAPD.

"To that," everyone also raised their glasses.

Reid laughed, "Susan, I still remember the first time I approached you, offering you the position of captain for the Robbery and Murder Department first team. It's quite amusing to think about now."

The deputy captain showed a curious expression, "Let's hear it. I've been waiting a long time for this, and I've thought of many reasons to refuse you.

But... you never came to me."

"Haha..." everyone laughed.

Reid shrugged, "I was actually planning to approach you, but I predicted your prediction, knowing you wouldn't agree. So, I had to look for someone else."

"OK, I forgive you. But let's talk about the main character of tonight, I'm very curious why Susan would agree to the transfer to the Robbery and Murder Department."

"No, she didn't agree. She refused the first time," Reid said.

The deputy captain "..."

Seeing the deputy captain's expression, Reid laughed, "OK, let's change the subject. Who picked tonight's restaurant? The steak is quite good. I like it."

The meal lasted until after nine in the evening.

Susan said goodbye to everyone one by one.

On the drive home, Luke's car was moving fast, hardly containing his excitement. He would rest for two days over the weekend, and on Monday, he would formally assume his new role.

However, although a promotion and a raise were good things, they also meant more responsibility.

When Luke got home, he saw the little fatty sitting on the living room couch, listless. Although the TV was on, it served more as background noise.

The little fatty had been living at the Luke family's home for a week, severely disrupting Luke's solitary life.

The coffee table was cluttered with his leftover takeouts: fried chicken, fries, pizza, and cola—the little fatty's favorite combination.

Luke was someone who liked cleanliness, with a touch of mild OCD; if it wasn't for the fact that the little fatty was heartbroken, he would have started to send him away already.

The little fatty snapped back to reality and glanced at Luke, "Big bro, you're back."

"Not bad," the little fatty nodded and let out a sigh.

Luke guessed that he still hadn't gotten over the breakup.

It had been a long time, and it couldn't go on .

"Jack, do you want to talk about it?"

Luke sat down next to the little fatty on the couch, showing concern, "Are you still upset about the breakup?"

"No!" the little fatty answered crisply.

Luke shook his head; the little guy was stubborn.

He felt it was necessary to give his brother another piece of advice.

"Listen, this state of mind is not right. Love can't be forced.

You're better off making yourself strong rather than doggedly pursuing a woman.

Focusing all your energy on one woman will exhaust you, and that woman will feel burdened too. It's all fine when your relationship is good, but once you run into issues, you'll be in a bad place.

So, you should put more energy into yourself, make yourself stronger, better, and naturally, you'll be liked by women.

Women are practical; they like men who are more handsome, stronger, and wealthier.

You should actively adjust your state of mind, understand?"
