Chi Enen went to the study to call Li Beijue. It seemed that Li Beijue was busy with work, so she quietly backed out. After making a cup of coffee and placing it gently on his desk, she took the door behind her and went out.
Baby Chi was mentally prepared to have dinner with The Neighbor Old Wang, but after a long wait, only his wife came out. Reluctantly, he tilted his chin toward the study and asked in a seemingly casual manner, “Where’s The Neighbor Old Wang?”
With a helpless chuckle, Chi Enen took his hand and led him outside, saying as they walked, “Your father is busy, so we’ll go down to eat first. Afterward, we can bring something up for him to eat… What do you want for dinner tonight?”
“The cake from noon!”
Their voices gradually faded into the distance…
In the restaurant downstairs.
The same waiter who had served them at noon now led them to their usual seats. Chi Enen chose a few nutritious dishes and handed the menu back to him. Baby Chi ordered a few desserts, and because Chi Enen didn’t allow him to eat too many sweets, he only ordered one of each.
Soon, the waiter took the menu and prepared to place their order.
As Chi Enen rested her chin on her hand and chatted with Baby Chi, a voice suddenly interjected from behind them, “Enen, what a coincidence.”
Chi Enen had heard her voice many times today; she didn’t need to look back to know who it was.
As expected, Lin Nai walked over with a beaming smile, wearing a white skirt and sporting a large square Band-Aid on her forehead that diminished her glamour but added a touch of innocence. She looked around before she couldn’t help but ask with curiosity, “Huh, Enen, isn’t Mr. Li coming down to eat with you?”
“He’s still busy.” Lin Nai had helped her in the afternoon, so Chi Enen didn’t want to be too dismissive. She replied indifferently.
“I see…” Lin Nai seemed thoughtful and then suggested naturally, “Enen, since there are only two of you, and I’m alone, why don’t we eat together?”
Chi Enen was rather reluctant.
But since Lin Nai had suggested it, she hummed a response.
Lin Nai immediately pulled out the chair next to Baby Chi and sat down. Baby Chi’s unwelcoming attitude was evident on his face. As soon as she sat down, he jumped off his chair and said coolly, “Woman, I don’t want to sit next to you.”
If she had been any less thick-skinned, she would have been so embarrassed that she would have left already. But not only did Lin Nai stay, she also seemed oblivious to the disdain in his tone, tilting her head and praising, “Enen, your and Mr. Li’s son is really handsome, he looks very smart. He will certainly have a bright future just like his father. How old is he now?”
As the saying goes, one does not slap a smiling face. Since she began with a flurry of compliments towards Baby Chi, Chi Enen felt it wouldn’t be polite to say much else, “Five and a half years old.”
Lin Nai seemed to like Baby Chi and praised him again before asking curiously, “So that means you knew Mr. Li five years ago? I thought back then you and Su…”
As if fearing she had touched on something Chi Enen was sensitive about, she swallowed Su Chengyan’s name back down.
Chi Enen calmly poured a cup of water for Baby Chi and handed it to him to drink, then said indifferently, “We’ve broken up.”
“Oh, I see.” She seemed very interested and continued, “How did you meet Mr. Li? He seems to treat you so well, it must have been very romantic when you first met, right?”
