Just as the two were immersed in the ambiguous beauty of the night, a cell phone rang.
It was Mo Yunchen’s call, his expression slightly stern. He glanced at the phone and saw that it was from Mo Cang.
"Wait here for me a moment, I’ll be right back!" Mo Yunchen whispered to Qin Qin.
Qin Qin nodded and saw him let go of her hand and walk to the side to answer the call, his tall figure casual yet radiating an imposing aura that was impossible to ignore.
"Qin Qin, what are you doing here?!" A male voice rang out, tinged with surprise and a hint of delight.
Qin Qin looked up and saw a young figure running toward her. Somewhat puzzled, she recognized him; he seemed to be Lee Jiaqi, the person she had once had a crush on.
Lee Jiaqi ran up to Qin Qin’s side, followed by a sixteen- or seventeen-year-old girl who was walking slowly behind him.
Lee Jiaqi’s eyes lit up. He had not expected to run into Qin Qin on his visit to Shangchuan City for the New Year. Her dropping out had caught him off guard, especially after her examination results showed she had ranked second in her grade, just one point behind the first place. He felt it was a pity given how good her grades were and didn’t understand why such a girl would drop out. Encountering her today, he really wanted to persuade her to go back to school.
"Qin Qin, why are you here? Why did you drop out? The last monthly test results showed you ranked second in the whole grade, just one point behind the first place. You’re so talented, it would be a shame not to continue your education. Oh, and Principal Ma has left the school, the new principal has some connections with my dad. Maybe I can talk to my dad and ask the principal to let you come back to school. Don’t you know how much not studying will affect you?"
Without waiting for Qin Qin to reply, Lee Jiaqi had already rattled off his thoughts.
Qin Qin was left speechless, lines of annoyance forming on her face. Wasn’t Lee Jiaqi known for being somewhat aloof? But who was this person in front of her, rattling on nonstop? He seemed to differ from the school heartthrob, Lee Jiaqi, she remembered.
"Who said I am not studying?" She had simply stopped studying at First High School.
"Qin Qin, I have heard you dropped out and stopped studying." Lee Jiaqi felt sorry for Qin Qin and wanted her to return to school. He had only started to notice her recently and had wanted her to notice him as well, but before he could talk to her much, she had already dropped out.
Lee Jiaqi became agitated and even grabbed Qin Qin’s hand.
Just as Qin Qin was about to pull away, a pair of large hands had already pulled hers away and were holding it tightly. The eyes looking at Lee Jiaqi were cold and intimidating.
Lee Jiaqi felt a pain in his hand as he released Qin Qin and looked up to see a taller figure standing above him, a handsome face with a cold, fierce gaze fixated on him. The high schooler Lee Jiaqi inexplicably shivered with fear and was startled.
Lee Jiaqi’s gaze still held accusation as he looked at Qin Qin and the man who kept holding her hand. Lots of things filled his mind, and he hesitantly said, "Qin Qin, are you with this guy because you stopped studying? Do you even know what you are doing?"
The lines of irritation on Qin Qin’s face deepened. Was this Lee Jiaqi out of his mind?!
"What she is doing is none of your business!" Mo Yunchen’s regal and intimidating presence grew stronger, making Lee Jiaqi, who had never seen much of the world, take several steps back.
Lee Jiaqi’s gaze was still accusing Qin Qin. He thought she shouldn’t be this kind of person, and now here she was, walking with a man, even one several years her senior, on the street in a seemingly intimate manner. This brought up a surge of anger in his heart.
