At the Sea City Peninsula Villa Cluster, living there was not just about wealth, one had to be powerful as well.
Li Jingmo’s villa was the most expensive one in the cluster, named Jade Creek Garden, and it took up the largest area. His villa was far from the rest, a standalone, large-scale villa that looked like an enormous luxury mansion from a distance.
Feng Bai, holding a watering can, was watering the flowers in the backyard garden indifferently. Since Master Li brought her to the villa a few days ago, she hadn’t seen him since their last encounter.
The initial curiosity and buzzing discussions from the maids about her in the villa had faded; they were polite at first because Master Li had brought her back personally. But after learning that she was just another servant he had brought back, they disregarded her, and many began to pick faults with Feng Bai and grow dissatisfied.
"Hey, what are you watering? You’ve killed all the flowers."
A mocking, angry voice came from behind Feng Bai, who turned to see who it was.
Standing in front of her were two maids from the Jade Creek Garden villa, wearing the villa’s standard maid uniforms. The taller one was Ru Yi, and the shorter one Yun Pei.
Yun Pei held a golden retriever on a leash, Master Li’s pet named General.
It was Yun Pei’s simplest task to walk General, Master Li’s pet dog, every day.
Since Feng Bai entered Jade Creek Garden, the two maids, using their seniority, found much to condemn about her, never missing a chance to sneer and taunt.
Yun Pei approached, leading General. With average looks among the maids, she considered herself to be of superior beauty and therefore held a sense of superiority. She felt jealous and angry toward Feng Bai, who was more beautiful than her, frequently finding excuses to make her work extra because she knew the ropes. Steward Ming had assigned Yun Pei to familiarize Feng Bai with the environment and allocate work to her, enabling Yun Pei to freely boss Feng Bai around.
"Feng Bai, are you doing this on purpose? Watering a plant for over an hour and you’re going to kill all these precious flowers. If Steward Ming finds out, you’re in big trouble."
Yun Pei snidely commented as other maids working around gathered to watch, looking at Feng Bai with some shaking their heads in pity. As Steward Ming’s favorite, Yun Pei was not to be trifled with. They may not have liked Feng Bai, but neither did they hate her. Yet by clashing with Yun Pei, Feng Bai was doomed for misfortune.
Feng Bai glanced at the flowers behind her, radiantly blooming. When had she killed them? It was clear they were just trying to find fault with her!
Having been innocently taken advantage of a few times since she arrived at Jade Creek Garden, Feng Bai quickly caught on that Yun Pei and some others were not fond of her and would look for any excuse to trouble her. Through these setbacks, she learned how to fight back.
"Are they dead? When they’re dead, come find me then, how does that sound?"
Feng Bai rolled her eyes, her beautiful and fair face radiating charm, provoking Yun Pei who clenched her teeth in irritation.
"You... you’ve got some nerve, Feng Bai! Neglecting your duties and talking back, I’ll show you if I don’t make you wish I wasn’t called Yun Pei."
Yun Pei, holding General’s leash, advanced and raised her hand to give Feng Bai a hard slap, but Feng Bai swiftly turned her watering can towards Yun Pei’s feet.
Yun Pei jumped up, shrieking; the water from Feng Bai’s can in the cold of winter made her feet go numb.
"Feng Bai, did you do that on purpose?!"
Yun Pei glared at Feng Bai, fuming with rage.
Feng Bai, holding the watering can, blinked innocently, her beautiful face appearing cute and charming, "No, it wasn’t on purpose. My arm’s a bit tired from holding the watering can, so when you came close, I accidentally splashed it on you."
A few maids couldn’t help but snicker at the scene, earning a fierce glare from Yun Pei before she turned back to Feng Bai with a vengeful look.
Yun Pei tightened her grip on General’s leash before suddenly letting go, shouting at the dog, "General, bite her! Bite her to death for me."
As Yun Pei had always been with General, he tended to listen to her commands.
General looked towards Feng Bai, his expression turning ferocious.
Yun Pei raised her head with pride, waiting eagerly for General to hurt Feng Bai until the latter would find no help from heaven or earth.
The usually naive Feng Bai could no longer stay calm. In the past, Yun Pei’s tricks were minor, so she did not take them seriously, but today Yun Pei had crossed the line by commanding General to attack her.
