Su Qing had knocked down several bodyguards at Mo Yunchen’s villa before finally escaping from his estate.
A white shadow chased after Su Qing like lightning. Hearing the commotion behind her, she stopped and turned around, only to see Xiao Bai stop a few meters away. Upon seeing her halt, Xiao Bai approached wagging its tail and clung to Su Qing’s leg, refusing to let go.
"Little Fox, why are you following me?"
Su Qing glanced behind her but saw no one pursuing her. Had the little fox taken a liking to her?
"Hurry back. I’ve already made a sorry escape, why are you still following me?"
She didn’t understand how this fox seemed to get familiar with her so quickly, refusing to be driven away. When she wanted to leave, it followed.
Xiao Bai clung to Su Qing’s leg, and upon hearing her as if trying to shoo it away, it didn’t care and jumped up. Su Qing instinctively caught the leaping Xiao Bai and couldn’t help but laugh and cry, "Are you planning to stick with me and not leave?"
Xiao Bai stayed in Su Qing’s arms and ceased moving, its intentions clear.
Su Qing didn’t know whether to cry or laugh. How had she been saddled with a fox that now seemed impossible to shake off?
"You better go back quickly, lest your owner worries."
Su Qing tried to let go of Xiao Bai, but its front paws clung tightly to her, signaling its refusal to leave.
"Alright, if you’re going to follow me, no mischief, understand?"
Seeing that she couldn’t shake Xiao Bai off, Su Qing said helplessly. After all, she had finally escaped and couldn’t possibly run back.
Su Qing held Xiao Bai and returned to the villa she was renting.
Feng Bai heard some noise outside, rubbed her eyes, and came out. Seeing Su Qing return, she ran up happily, "Su Qing, what is this?"
Feng Bai stared at Xiao Bai in Su Qing’s arms. Xiao Bai lifted its head to look at Feng Bai. Its eyes showed a glimmer, and it leaped towards Feng Bai. Feng Bai, unlike Su Qing, stepped back instead of catching Xiao Bai, which landed on the ground and looked up at Feng Bai, its expression plaintive.
Feng Bai understood Xiao Bai’s look and, squatting down, unceremoniously poked Xiao Bai with her finger, "Hey, what’s with that face? Are you cursing at me?"
Xiao Bai wagged its tail and licked Feng Bai while making whimpering sounds as if trying to say something.
Feng Bai burst out laughing, embraced Xiao Bai, "Okay, I accept your apology. Why do I feel like you look familiar? What’s your name?"
Xiao Bai whimpered. Feng Bai glared at it, "Your name is Xiao Bai? How can you be called Xiao Bai? You can’t have that name."
Her name was Feng Bai, and this fox was also called Xiao Bai – that just wouldn’t do.
"Alright, Feng Bai, it’s late, cut it out."
Su Qing stopped Feng Bai from bullying Xiao Bai, watching the harmony between the human and the fox, feeling it was unexpectedly harmonious.
Feng Bai looked at Su Qing and nodded, whatever the master says goes.
"I’ll forgive you this time. Considering how well-behaved you are, I’ll let you be called Xiao Bai. But you are the littlest Xiao Bai."
Feng Bai hugged Xiao Bai with joy, then let go. Xiao Bai followed her, and Feng Bai curiously stared at it, "Are you going to sleep with me?"
Xiao Bai wagged its tail. It liked its owner, liked Feng Bai, and wanted to stay with her.
"Alright, if you’re going to sleep with me, you must be obedient, got it?"
Seeing this Xiao Bai, a wave of joy surged in her heart. She embraced Xiao Bai and headed towards her room.
Su Qing watched Feng Bai’s retreating figure and then smiled as she went into her room. After a quick wash, Su Qing returned to bed.
Lying in bed, Su Qing looked at the dim ceiling, lifted her hand, and stared at her wrist, recalling how she had been grasped by that man not long ago, the scorching heat searing her heart, as if her own heart had skipped a beat in that moment.
His breath seemed somewhat familiar, yet she knew that even if it was, there was no connection between her and him – his wife was the beautiful and charming Qin Qin.
Su Qing lowered her hand; the pillow was damp. She touched the corner of her eye and realized tears had unknowingly fallen.
"You mustn’t think about it, Su Qing, you can’t dwell on it."
"He’s just a stranger. Even if... even if you feel something for him, you can’t allow it."
Su Qing forced herself not to think about it, but her mind continuously revisited the moment he grabbed her, his Phoenix eyes fixating on her, deep and dark, unfathomable.
She felt as if she could sense his excitement when he grabbed her hand, but that must have been an illusion.
