Batana looked at Lynch, but couldn’t read any information from his pupils. The pure black strange eyes concealed this human’s psychological changes, making even the matron unable to decipher him. Batana strode to the corpses nearby and began to carefully inspect "Briza’s body".
Lynch glanced at the Dark Elf troops that followed in and only felt at ease when he spotted Zilvra’s figure. The female Drow appeared somewhat disheveled, suggesting that she had gone through several arduous battles. Fortunately, Lynch did not see any wounds on her body. Against the kind of poison that "kills as soon as it cuts the skin," only the Drow’s fighting style of "not getting hurt" through dodging and blocking is the safest method.
He winked at Zilvra twice, then continued speaking to the matron. As long as he could divert the matron’s attention, the fabricated corpse would not be exposed.
"Esteemed Matron, as an adviser, I have accomplished tasks beyond my original duties. Clearly, I am not a Drow Elf, so asking for some reward shouldn’t be an issue."
In Matron Batana’s heart, a raging inferno of anger burned. A human, a lowly male, had been given the immense honor to slightly assist the noble Drow family. That was already their graciousness, and now he dared to ask for a reward! These despicable creatures should only serve as food for the subterranean lizards! Only then would they understand what gratitude truly means!
However, this Mage always took opportunities to make requests at times that left Batana at a difficult decision point. Taking on tasks from the second family was extremely demanding; it would be best to complete all work before dawn to prevent prying from other families. This was not the time to fall out.
Batana forced a smile, which only made her look more sinister: "Adviser Mage, what do you want?"
"To be precise, what I want is a person." Lynch glanced at Zilvra, deliberately using this method to tell the matron his final answer. The Mage knew in his heart that no matter how important Zilvra was, she was just a mixed-blood. She could never truly become the matron of the Drow family. Remaining in Ratris City with the Dark Elf Family, a female Drow unable to become a matron would certainly be killed in competition with her peers. Zilvra’s fate was determined the moment she was born; she should have been executed back then. However, as a mixed-blood, under Batana’s selfish motives, she luckily survived to adulthood, delaying her death moment. It was precisely by understanding this "certain death" that Zilvra became more determined to leave the city.
Even for this selfish motive, Lynch decided to give the first matron an opportunity. If she nodded and gave Zilvra to the Mage, Lynch would then reveal Briza’s plan to her. After all, by keeping the fair-skinned Dark Elf next to her, Batana was effectively plotting to murder this mixed-blood; letting her go, even if she was demoted to a slave or a reward, could preserve her life. Lynch never cared who won or lost between the two great families.
"No! Male, you are not entitled to make such a request!" Batana sternly rejected the suggestion: "You only fulfilled your duty, this battle’s glory belongs to the Goddess, praise the great Spider Goddess!"
Thus, this was the solid step the first family took towards death.
