"Um?"
Seeing this, Finn’s eyes sharpened with seriousness.
There was no mistaking it. From this surge of energy, he could feel the presence of death itself. The sensation was unmistakable—like shards of glass digging into his skin.
If he didn’t react in time, he would die.
Without hesitation, Finn withdrew his spear, turned on his heel, and launched himself into the air.
Because he knew, in Mara’s eyes, the weapon he used was irrelevant. The brutal truth was that after multiple back-to-back clashes, his body was nearing collapse.
With no other choice, Finn was forced to retreat.
"Trying to run?"
Mara’s voice dripped with venom. "You think you can escape my grasp? You came here to die. Accept your fate!"
As the words left his mouth, Mara shot forward like a missile, the sheer pressure from his energy fracturing the ground below into dust and rubble.
The two figures vanished from the village, hurtling into the distance.
"What do we do now?"
"Right? If that human is still hiding power, won’t Lord Mara end up just like Mephisto did?"
"Hard to say... but that kid’s strength is insane. If we don’t eliminate him completely, we’re all screwed."
The demons that remained stared at one another, the same worry mirrored across their twisted features.
They had seen firsthand the terrifying potential that Finn had unleashed. If he got away now, no one could predict what would happen next.
Meanwhile, far from the village, Finn and Mara arrived in a wide, open space.
Night had fallen. The darkness was thick, but Finn could still make out the surroundings.
A hill. A massive one.
He hadn’t expected to find such terrain here, this far out.
"Heh. You really think you can run?"
Mara hovered mid-air, his expression cold and detached.
"Tonight, you die."
RUMBLE!
The moment he spoke, the sky above Finn darkened. A fierce wind exploded downward, sharp as knives.
Finn looked up.
A monster loomed over him.
It had a colossal form, its scarlet eyes locked onto him with murderous intent. The energy radiating from it was pure rage, like a hellbeast from the deepest level of Muspelheim.
"Shit!"
Finn hissed, pushing off the ground with his toes and launching himself dozens of meters into the air. He narrowly dodged the blow.
But the aura Mara emitted still crushed down on him, suffocating and absolute.
Huff!
After finding a brief moment of space, Finn exhaled a stale breath, heart pounding in his chest.
Mara’s pressure was overwhelming.
Even if he wasn’t quite at Mephisto’s level, he wasn’t far off. Definitely stronger than any of the others Finn had encountered.
ROOOOAR!!
Mara threw back his head and bellowed into the night. His body expanded even more, swelling with demonic power. He towered like a fire-giant, eyes blazing red.
He glared down at Finn, grinning with malice. "Insect... I’ll show you what true agony is!"
Swish!
He vanished into a blur, charging straight for Finn.
Finn’s eyes widened. He stepped into the air, manipulating the particles beneath his feet to fall backward and dodge.
BOOM!
Mara struck the earth, sending rocks and soil flying. A crater formed where he’d landed.
"Damn, he’s fast!"
Finn clenched his jaw.
Mara’s speed was unreal—beyond normal perception. Even with aerial maneuverability, Finn wasn’t confident he could keep up much longer.
"Hahaha! Run, human! Keep running! Why stop now?"
Mara laughed, his fangs gleaming under the moonlight, savage and mocking.
"Think I can’t catch you?"
Finn’s expression turned frigid. A deep, steady energy pulsed through him, concentrating into his clenched fist.
"You’re stronger than me, I admit it. But you’re not limitless. You’ve been going all out without rest. How much longer can you keep that up?"
His voice was calm. Unshaken.
Mara’s attacks were powerful, but required time to fully connect. And time was something Finn could manipulate.
"So what?!" Mara snarled. "When your energy burns out, you’ll die! I’ll devour your flesh, suck out your soul, and wear your bones!"
With a thunderous roar, he lunged again.
RUMBLE!
Their bodies collided mid-air, the impact sending shockwaves through the terrain.
The ground trembled like an earthquake, as if reality itself would crack open.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
In the brief exchange that followed, Finn was launched backward multiple times, finally slamming into the earth and carving out a deep trench with his body.
Pfft!
A mouthful of blood escaped his lips. His limbs trembled, his expression grim.
"Mara’s power... it’s definitely grown since earlier."
He wiped the blood off with the back of his hand, eyes locked onto the demon hovering above him.
"What now, human?" Mara sneered from the sky. "Run out of tricks? On your knees, or I’ll chew your bones to dust!"
Finn’s gaze flickered.
He hadn’t expected Mara to evolve this far, this quickly.
He had pushed himself to the brink, and it still wasn’t enough. The difference in power was becoming undeniable.
"Shit!"
He cursed under his breath, furious with himself.
He should have escaped earlier. If he had anticipated this kind of surge, he would’ve retreated the moment Mara emerged.
But now?
He had no choice.
He was exposed. His strength revealed.
If he fled, the demon faction would hunt him down. They would never let this battle go.
No.
It was better to end this.
Now.
Here.
All at once.
Finn’s eyes blazed with purpose.
He shot forward, faster than before, his figure blurring into afterimages.
The force of his speed enveloped the entire area, causing the very space around them to warp.
Even under Mara’s crushing aura, he didn’t hesitate.
No one wanted a confrontation like this.
But there was no turning back.
"Let’s settle this!"
His voice roared through the chaos.
"Let’s see who dies tonight!!"
There was no fear in his eyes. Only grim determination. A warrior who had nothing left to lose, and everything to gain from victory.
Finn, the lone human standing in the path of hell itself, was ready for the final gamble.
