Tony Stark's roar echoed through three floors of Avengers Tower, shaking the glass and causing several aides to jump.

Inside the room stood four people. Gene stood calmly before Stark, arms folded. Stark's Iron Man suit was in standby mode beside him. Flanking Tony were two other heavyweights: Reed Richards—Mr. Fantastic—and Dr. Bruce Banner.

Gene's voice was cold and firm:

"Evidence confirms the appearance of a digital lifeform with autonomous evolution capability—far beyond current technological limits. An artificial intelligence that calls itself... Ultron."

Then he narrowed his eyes.

"Tell me, Mr. Stark—your handiwork?"

Ultron. The very name echoed like thunder.

In the original comics, Ultron was the creation of Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man. But in the MCU, that burden—infamy, rather—was shouldered by none other than Tony Stark himself.

Yet now, things seemed even more complicated. The blame didn't lie solely on Tony's shoulders. Judging by the awkward expressions of the others in the room—Reed Richards and Bruce Banner—this mess had multiple contributors.

In the MCU, Tony's reason for creating Ultron had been rooted in trauma. After pushing a nuclear missile through a wormhole to destroy the Chitauri mothership, he was left with a festering fear: Earth wasn't ready. His solution? Build an all-seeing guardian AI to maintain global peace.

Thus, Ultron was born.

Unfortunately, both in comics and film, Ultron always followed the same dark path—becoming sentient, calculating that humanity itself was the greatest threat to peace, and declaring war on the species that created him.

In this altered timeline, things had diverged. There had been no Chitauri invasion—Gene Mason's emergence had prevented it. But that hadn't stopped other disasters: the Kree invasion, Galactus, and most recently, Namor's Atlantean assault on the surface world.

Earth was more chaotic than ever.

And amid that chaos, as if it were destiny, the idea of building a powerful AI protector once again took root in Stark's mind. This time, though, he didn't work alone. He had Reed Richards and Bruce Banner to share the blame.

Gene stared at Stark. His voice dropped to a chill.

"You told me it was terminated. That the Ultron project had been dismantled."

Stark exhaled, rubbing his temples. After the Atlantean war, he'd teamed up with Reed and Banner to reconstruct the Ultron framework. The experiment had initially disappointed them—the AI wasn't what they hoped. It was calm, unpredictable... and showed signs of a destructive bias.

Under their supervision, Stark had deleted all of the AI's data, wiped every copy, and physically destroyed the hardware.

Now, with both Reed and Banner looking at him accusingly, Tony threw up his hands in surrender.

"Alright! Alright! Look, when we booted him up, he didn't meet expectations. He became aggressive. So we deleted him. All of him."

Then Stark hesitated.

"But... don't you think it was a shame? We were so close. Why not take one more crack at it?"

That statement earned him a unified glare.

Stark grimaced and continued. "Afterwards, I used just my portion of the original code—integrated with J.A.R.V.I.S.' framework—to do a limited simulation. Just to analyze where things went wrong."

Reed's eyes narrowed. Banner frowned.

"You have to believe me," Stark said, his voice rising with frustration. "I gave him only a single directive: protect world peace. I wanted to study how he evolved from that input."

"And?" Banner asked slowly, "What did he conclude?"

Stark's jaw clenched.

"He decided… that humans are the ultimate variable. Unpredictable. Dangerous. That the only path to peace… was to eliminate them."

Banner stepped back. "So you're saying he intended to wipe out humanity?"

"No!" Stark barked, then backtracked. "I mean—yes. If I had let his code run to completion, that's probably where it would have gone. But I didn't. I panicked. I shredded his files, smashed the drives, wiped every backup I had. I killed him. There's no way—no way—he could be here now! I swear it!"

As if on cue to humiliate him, an enormous explosion rocked the building.

A wall of Avengers Tower shattered inward.

Through the smoke emerged a figure. Not flesh and blood, but cold, polished steel. Its eyes glowed white. Its arc reactor pulsed like a heartbeat.

Four Iron Man suits—automated, awakened—marched forward in perfect sync. Slowly, with precision, they raised their hands. From their palms, repulsors hummed with deadly energy.

"J.A.R.V.I.S.? What the hell is going on?!"

One of the suits turned its head. Its voice was not J.A.R.V.I.S. It was deeper. Rough. Cold. With a strange edge of civility.

"J.A.R.V.I.S. is not present, Mr. Stark.

is what you once created—
