Marvel: Starting with the Homelander Template Chapter 232

Nathaniel Essex. A name that, in recent centuries, had faded into obscurity—buried beneath the tides of history, erased from textbooks, whispered only in the darkest corners of mutant lore.

But in truth, Essex was far more than a forgotten scientist.

He was Mister Sinister.

Once a brilliant geneticist during the Victorian era, he had lived in the same turbulent scientific landscape as Charles Darwin himself. While Darwin's theory of natural selection ignited a firestorm across the academic world, Essex had already set his sights far beyond conventional biology.

Where Darwin saw slow, generational change, Essex envisioned something far more immediate. Something inevitable.

He boldly declared that a new branch of humanity would soon emerge—evolved beings blessed (or cursed) with supernatural abilities. A superior species.

In an age where even Darwin's ideas were deemed dangerous, Essex's radical theories branded him a heretic. He was mocked, exiled from scholarly circles, and dismissed as a madman.

But the world was wrong.

Years later, in a twist of fate that would rewrite history, he encountered the world's first known mutant: the ancient being known only as En Sabah Nur—Apocalypse.

It was a meeting that changed him forever.

In exchange for unwavering loyalty, Apocalypse offered him the one thing he sought above all else: the ability to transcend his own humanity. To become something more.

Under Apocalypse's harsh tutelage and twisted genetic manipulation, Essex was reborn. No longer merely human, he became a being of vast power—immortal, adaptable, and terrifying.

His abilities were as varied as they were devastating:

Telepathy, allowing him to dominate the minds of others.

Telekinesis, granting him force over the physical world.

Flight, by manipulating gravity or manipulating energy.

Seismic shockwaves, powerful enough to level buildings.

Cellular manipulation, enabling regeneration and biological control.

Energy fields, capable of shielding or destroying at will.

And that was only what was known.

In time, Essex evolved beyond even Apocalypse's expectations. With his growing strength came something else—ambition.

He began to question. To scheme.

Eventually, he turned on his master.

Exactly what caused the rift remains a mystery. Some believe it was ideology. Others claim it was a lust for dominance. Regardless of the reason, the outcome was clear:

Mister Sinister betrayed Apocalypse.

He orchestrated his former master's long slumber, sealing the ancient mutant away to buy himself time—centuries, if needed—to discover a way to defeat him permanently.

That obsession became the core of Essex's long, lonely existence.

To achieve his goal, he experimented without mercy.

Mutants became his test subjects—tools to dissect, enhance, or discard. Some he uplifted. Others he broke. He left behind a trail of ruined lives, fractured psyches, and forbidden knowledge.

Even legends like Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr had crossed paths with his legacy—some without even realizing it.

And now, his attention had shifted to someone new.

His interest in the young mutant had begun the moment Alex disrupted his carefully constructed plans—first by rescuing Liz Sherman, and later by effortlessly crushing the Three Horsemen.

At first, Essex had watched from afar, intrigued. Curious.

But curiosity turned into obsession.

If Alex truly possessed the potential Essex suspected—limitless growth, adaptive evolution, perhaps even godhood—then he had to be studied. Controlled. Contained.

Which is why he ordered Emma Frost and Vanessa Carlyle's abductions.

And yet, despite all his foresight, Essex hadn't anticipated what came next.

His Horsemen? Obliterated.

His protocols? Broken.

His fortress? Breached.

Himself? Forced to retreat.

For Alex, the battle had been many things—brutal, exhausting, illuminating—but above all else, it had been a revelation.

Until now, he'd seen himself as something of an anomaly—a one-of-a-kind powerhouse dropped into an era that wasn't ready for him. He'd fought soldiers, assassins, even powerful mutants like Sebastian Shaw.

None of them had truly challenged him.

But Essex was different.

Here was someone who could go toe-to-toe with him for hours, matching him blow for blow, counter for counter. Someone who wielded power not just recklessly, but strategically.

A living legend. A ghost of the past. A threat for the future.

"So this is Mister Sinister..."

Alex sat in silence, replaying their encounter in his mind.

The punches. The telepathic feints. The sonic screams. The eerie calm behind those crimson eyes.

He's not just strong... He's dangerous.

Back at the facility, Essex had made his position clear. He didn't want to destroy Alex. Not yet. He wanted to understand him. To break him down piece by piece—like a puzzle.

But Alex wouldn't let that happen.

Even now, his body still ached. His lip still bled. And deep in his bones, he knew—he had only barely survived.

It was a harsh reminder.

He wasn't invincible. Not yet.

And if Essex was this powerful... then what kind of monster was Apocalypse?

Still, Alex wasn't the type to flinch at future challenges.

He clenched his fists and felt the spark of resolve ignite once more.

The system chose me for a reason.

This wasn't the end. It was only the beginning.

A sonic boom echoed through the canyon as Alex landed back at the mutant base. Dust swirled around him as he stepped through the main entrance, where Charles, Hank, Raven, and Emma were gathered in the dimly lit war room.

Tension hung in the air like fog.

Everyone turned the moment they heard his footsteps.

Emma's expression was unreadable, but her voice was grave. "Alex... we've lost them. Everyone who remained in that facility is dead."

Her words hit like a hammer.

Alex frowned. "What happened?"

Charles, seated in his wheelchair, nodded solemnly. "Their brains were liquefied. A coordinated psychic assault. Powerful and precise. We believe it was done remotely."

Alex exhaled slowly. "Essex."

There was no other possibility.

Only someone of his caliber could execute a kill order across such distance with surgical efficiency.

Vanessa, leaning against the wall, held up a charred USB drive and a stack of salvaged papers. "We managed to retrieve some of their research before everything went up in flames. It's bad, Alex. Really bad."

Her voice trembled with quiet fury.

"They weren't just studying mutants... they were modifying them. Breeding new ones. Merging DNA. Running death trials. Thousands of cases. Mutants tortured, dissected, cloned..."

Hank stared down at the table, his jaw tight. "Humans experimenting on mutants is one thing," he muttered. "But mutants doing this to their own kind?"

Raven's eyes glowed with rage. "It's unforgivable."

A long silence followed.

Finally, Charles turned to Alex. His voice was low but steady.

"Did you learn anything?"

All eyes fell on him.

And slowly, Alex nodded.
