Marvelous Mutations Chapter 173

"So, can you do it or not?" Luke asked, his eyes lighting up with the faintest spark of childlike hope.

Bumblebee tilted his head, optics flickering as if weighing possibilities only he could see. After a moment of mechanical silence, he gave a slow, deliberate nod.

At present, there was little trace of the familiar bright yellow armor that once defined him. His form had shifted again, plates reconfiguring in a way that made him look almost like an entirely different machine. Yet for Luke, the name stuck, Bumblebee would always be Bumblebee. Renaming him felt troublesome, and truth be told, both had grown attached to the name.

The confirmation sent a ripple of excitement through Luke. The idea itself sounded insane even in his head: turning the entire helicarrier into a Transformer. He had always assumed such a feat was impossible, that only machines no larger than a fighter jet or maybe a tank could make the leap into sentience. In the movies, the largest Transformer he'd ever seen was a combination of several smaller machines, and even then, it had been dwarfed by the sheer size of S.H.I.E.L.D's floating fortress.

"Wait, so you're saying it's possible? All of it?" Luke pressed, half in disbelief.

"Possible," Bumblebee confirmed, his voice carrying the metallic distortion of shifting gears. "But not without risk. A Transformer's final form depends on instinct and thought. No one, not even I can control the exact shape it will take."

Luke blinked, his excitement dimming into hesitation. The helicarrier wasn't just a war machine anymore; it had become their home. If Bumblebee changed it into something unpredictable, would it still be comfortable? Would it even be livable? The image of Wanda and Sharon's precious pool evaporating mid-transformation crossed his mind, and he shuddered. If all that water spilled away in the middle of the sky, the two women would riot.

After several moments of internal debate, Luke finally sighed and shook his head.

"Let's wait. We'll keep the helicarrier as it is… at least until Wanda and Sharon are ready to crawl out of that pool."

He turned his head toward the hot spring-like swimming pool where Wanda and Sharon were currently lounging, splashing water at each other like they had no intention of leaving. A wry smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "If you want to see a real battle, try pulling those two away from there. Hydra would look like amateurs by comparison."

Bumblebee let out a mechanical whirr that sounded suspiciously like a chuckle, and Luke leaned back, letting the thought rest for now.

Beyond their small world in the sky, the Marvel universe continued to spin. Luke's presence had reshaped some events, but others pressed forward as if fate refused to be derailed.

Among the stars, Star-Lord had finally gathered his eccentric team, secured the Power Stone, and defeated Ronan the Accuser. In the shadows of the cosmos, Thanos pursued his grim population control mission, one world at a time.

On Earth, the Avengers were anything but idle.

Certain details of their story had shifted. Nick Fury no longer had to feign death, thanks to Luke standing at his side when Hydra struck. And with Pierce dead and Hydra's upper structure gutted, Fury and the Avengers had moved decisively, launching operations to wipe out the stubborn remnants of the Nazi-born organization.

Just days after the dark elf crisis, S.H.I.E.L.D, with Tony's expertise, tracked down a secret Hydra stronghold so well hidden it might have gone unnoticed for decades. Hydra's grip remained tenacious, even leaderless, the serpent refused to die quietly.

This discovery brought the Avengers together once again. Even Thor had returned, his booming presence filling the newly rebuilt S.H.I.E.L.D conference room.

Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, they all stood assembled, their silence heavy with anticipation. At the front stood Nick Fury, his polished leather eyepatch gleaming under the room's white lights, expression unreadable.

Thor was the first to break the stillness. He raised Stormbreaker high and declared, "We know Hydra's nest. Why hesitate? Let us march into battle and tear it apart!" His voice thundered with the same reckless certainty he carried into every fight.

Tony folded his arms but didn't disagree. Since the Killian incident, he had made a monumental breakthrough: the Iron Legion, an army of suits controlled entirely by Jarvis. With an AI guiding them, they moved with flawless precision, and Tony no longer needed to risk his own neck in every skirmish. It was the perfect blend of invention and protection.

This Hydra base was different. Intelligence reports pointed to Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, a man infamous for his cruelty and genius. Worse, he might have access to an arsenal unlike anything they had faced before.

Should he risk the Avengers alone? Or should he call upon Luke, the consultant who always seemed to demand a terrible price for his aid, yet always delivered results?

Fury's one eye swept across the room. The team was formidable, yes. But Luke was… well, Luke. Unpredictable, terrifying at times, but reliable in ways no one else could be.

Finally, he made up his mind. "Talk amongst yourselves. I'll make a call before we finalize anything." Without waiting for a reply, Fury turned and strode out of the room, pulling his phone from his coat pocket.

He hesitated for a brief second, then dialed.

The line clicked, and Luke's lazy voice drifted through, tinged with amusement. "Hey. What's the occasion? Got something good for me?"

Fury let out a humorless chuckle. "Consultant Yale. The Avengers are heading to Sokovia. I was wondering if you'd be willing to join us."

On the helicarrier, Luke was sprawled in the pool chair, basking under the sun. He cracked one eye open, smirking. "Cut the warm-up, Fury. I'm busy here. Just say it."

With a grunt, Fury dropped the pretense. "Fine. Hydra's got a base in Sokovia. Word is they've been hoarding Chitauri tech left behind from New York. It's too dangerous to leave unchecked. So, are you coming or not?"

Truth be told, Fury hated calling him in. The last time he had asked for help, he'd lost an entire helicarrier in repayment. But Hydra wasn't just another nuisance. Strucker was the last head of the snake. If they cut him down now, Hydra would finally wither.

On the poolside, Luke's smirk faded. His brow furrowed as the name Sokovia clicked into place.

At first, it had just sounded vaguely familiar. But paired with Hydra… and with a secret base… the pieces snapped together.

That was where it began. Hydra's experiments. The Mind Scepter.

And more importantly, the twins.

Not just Wanda, who was currently floating in the pool, eyes closed in blissful ignorance, but also Pietro. Her brother.

Luke sat up slowly, his thoughts racing. In this timeline, Wanda had grown up in an orphanage in New York. Pietro had never appeared, not even once. Had fate scattered them apart? Or had Hydra already taken him?

Either way, Luke had no choice. For Wanda's sake, he had to go.

He glanced toward her, watching the gentle rise and fall of her shoulders as she drifted in the water.

'If Pietro's there,' Luke thought grimly, 'then this isn't just an Avenger mission. It's family business.'

He frowned deeper, another absurd thought surfacing. Pietro was technically Wanda's older twin by a few minutes… which made him younger than Luke. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟f͟i͟r͟e͟.net

As his brother-in-law he had the duty to save him from Hydra's claws. Wait, no, little brother, yes, let's go with that.

Luke groaned and buried his face in his hands. "Great. Just what I needed, family drama in the middle of Hydra business."

But his decision was already made. Sokovia awaited.
