Heads snapped up in shock. In all these years, Prince Alfried had taken only one godchild—Prince Feiru Bu'erwei'er—and never a goddaughter.

Prince Alfried looked understanding. “You mean that if she agrees, Siria Magic Academy has no objection?”
A weight dropped in Tobias’s stomach as she fumbled for a reply—when Professor Eudora Moses stepped forward.
“Your Highness, as Luo Wei’s professors we will certainly respect her wishes. However, Luo Wei is Headmaster Morrison’s most valued student. Without his approval, I’m afraid none of us can decide for her.”
With a single statement, Professor Moses shifted the burden cleanly onto the absent headmaster. Who knew what the old man would think when he heard?
Prince Alfried smiled indulgently and did not press her. “In that case, I’ll wait until Headmaster Morrison recovers and speak with him personally.”
“Many thanks for your understanding, Your Highness.” Professor Moses placed a hand over her chest, saluted, and sat back down composed.
Tobias exhaled—crisis deferred, for now.
She could only hope it was a passing whim, something he would forget when the tournament ended.
Having served as a bishop for decades, she knew too well the rot and darkness inside the Church. Being noticed by Prince Alfried was not a blessing—it was danger.
Internal factions coil around one another; the princes wage open and covert strife. Without sufficient benefit, no bond holds.
Godfather and godchild are a two‑way scaffold of interests.
Take Prince Alfried himself: he accepted the Kaelo Principality’s prince as godson because he needs the support of its five hundred thousand believers to strengthen his future bid for the papacy.
Kaelo, in turn, needs closer ties with the Church to secure popular reverence for its royal house and preserve its exalted status.
But Luo Wei?
She has nothing. Her people are far off in the Misty Plains. She cannot even return to her own palace. What does she possess that Prince Alfried would court?
Tobias’s unease deepened. This was not the first olive branch the Church had extended to Luo Wei.
Last time a Holy Knight came—and Luo Wei refused.
This time it was Prince Alfried. All the more reason she must refuse.
She already turned down a knight close to the Pope. How could she agree to become a prince’s goddaughter?
