MMA System: I Will Be Pound For Pound Goat Chapter 569

Damon's return fight was officially announced. His first title defense after the long break.

It wasn't shocking. In fact, it made sense. PDD had been active, had won a solid bounce-back fight, and was still ranked high enough to justify a shot.

But to most fans, it didn't feel like a challenge. Damon had already beaten the men who beat PDD. Not once, but twice. In the eyes of the public, this was just another name to cross off.

To Damon, it felt the same.

He didn't disrespect PDD. He knew the man was skilled.

He knew he'd bring a real fight. But the excitement wasn't there. He had climbed the mountain.

Now he was circling it. Beating names he'd already passed on the way up. It was the reason he had started thinking about moving to light heavyweight.

There was no thrill in fighting a man whose limits had already been exposed.

But it was the job. So he prepared.

The announcement came with media hype, but the public response was mixed. And as usual, Chirper lit up.

BREAKING: Damon Cross vs PDD set for UFA 302. Middleweight gold on the line.

We already saw Damon beat the guy who KO'd PDD. And then he beat that guy too. This is a tune-up.

Don't forget, styles make fights. Damon isn't untouchable. Let's see how he handles a pressure striker with something to prove.

He beat Anatoly. He beat Chemasov. Both of them beat PDD. Y'all can't be serious with this. Next.

If Damon wins this, it's time to go up a division. No point in staying where you've cleaned out the top ten.

Cross vs PDD got that 'keep the belt warm' energy.

But hey, champ gotta eat.

Once the UFA officially announced Damon's return match, the pressure came back instantly.

The noise, the attention, the media, all of it.

After four months away, he'd felt the hunger returning. The itch in his hands. The urge to get back into the cage. Not just to fight, but to defend what was his.

Camp started the same week the news dropped.

Victor, who had been happy just to see Damon enjoying fatherhood, was even happier now.

He helped organize everything, training schedules, sparring partners, updated drills.

He restructured the plan around Damon's new lifestyle, making sure he could train at full intensity without neglecting his responsibilities at home. It was tight, but it worked.

The gym welcomed him back with respect. Everyone there knew he was the champ now, but Damon didn't carry himself like he was above anyone. He trained hard. Stayed late. Took every round seriously.

On the other side of the world, deep in the heart of Russia, an MMA team gathered in a modest training facility.

Snow piled high outside the reinforced windows, but inside, the heat of discipline and focus radiated from the fighters as they sat around the mats. The room smelled of sweat, resin, and old leather.

One of the men seated near the center was a UFA Lightweight Champion, sharp-jawed, calm, and confident in the way only champions could be.

His words carried weight, and the others listened with quiet respect as he talked through his upcoming title defense.

Standing next to him, arms folded, was a man just as recognizable, though not for fighting anymore.

The coach, his demeanor was strict, but his tone had the care of a father who'd built every fighter in this room.

He occasionally chimed in, guiding the champion's focus, challenging his thought process, never letting ego take root.

Sitting off to the side, Ivan Novak leaned forward with his elbows on his knees, listening without interrupting.

His presence was quieter than the others, but no less respected. The fighters knew him.

A storm of a man in the cage, Ivan had built a reputation off grit, timing, and a mean recently developer left hook.

His career was not impressive to day the list, as only after winning his next match would he be officially ranked in the division, one of his recent wins, Zernom Caige did garner attention but nothing beyond that.

Eventually, the conversation shifted. From fight camps to strategy. From the champion's opponent to potential moves in other divisions. Then, gradually, the focus turned toward him.

The coach gave a small nod in his direction.

"So, Ivan… what about you?" he asked, tone calm but direct. "You've been back for months. Your weight's locked in. Your shape's better than it's ever been."

The champion glanced over, interest flashing in his eyes. "They say you've been looking sharp."

A few of the younger fighters stayed silent but leaned closer, waiting for Ivan's answer.

He didn't respond right away.

He just smiled faintly, showing a smile that subtlety carried history, and maybe something more.

Then he broke the silence.

"They said Damon's returning. Vegas card. Big show."

Eslum stopped tossing the ball. "Cross?" He grinned. "Finally. I thought he retired to do podcasts or something."

Kamil gave a small shake of his head. "He's not that type. He always comes back."

Ivan nodded. "Main event. UFA putting a lot behind it. They offered me a fight on the same card. Mid card slot."

Eslum raised an eyebrow. "You say yes?"

Kamil looked over. "Good. Stay active. You need rhythm before you talk belts."

"I'm not chasing belts," Ivan said. "I'm chasing moments."

Eslum smirked. "That sounds like something Damon would say."

Ivan chuckled under his breath. "Maybe. We spent a lot of time together back in Supreme Fighter. Same house, same training room, same weight cuts."

Eslum leaned forward, grinning. "So what, you think you beat him now?"

Ivan didn't answer immediately. He finished wrapping his hands, then looked up calmly.

"I think… we're overdue. That's all."

Kamil tilted his head. "You want that fight?"

"If it comes, I won't say no," Ivan said. "But I'm not calling him out. I'm just making sure when the time comes, no one calls it a mismatch."

Eslum leaned back. "You think he'll remember you?"

Ivan smirked faintly. "He'll remember."
