“Jingwu, don’t worry. The first prenatal checkup will have a few more steps, rest assured, nothing will go wrong.” Rhee looked at him standing frozen in place and said, consolingly, holding back his laughter.
The usually stoic son of her family, when it came to his wife, acted like a clueless youth, which was somewhat amusing.
“After Jian Qing finishes her examination here, there will be an ultrasound scan. Then you can see your baby with Jian Qing,” Weng Ya said.
Hearing this, Quan Jingwu felt a little nervous, but mostly expectant.
The first prenatal checkup naturally involved many steps. After an unknown period, Jian Qing finally came out. The Director was following her, holding a piece of paper.
Seeing her come out, Quan Jingwu quickly stepped forward. He extended his hand to encircle her, his icy voice filled with gentleness.
“How are you feeling, any discomfort?”

“Did it hurt when they drew blood?” Quan Jingwu held her hand tightly and carefully asked, “Can it cause hypoglycemia?”

The two of them were indifferent to the others around them. Rhee and Weng Ya looked at each other and laughed. They had grown accustomed to these lovey-dovey interactions, but it was the first time for the Director, who was dumbfounded as she watched the couple cling to each other.

“Cough, cough!” Rhee coughed lightly, reminding the two that they were still at the hospital.
“Director, what shall we examine next?”
Coming back to herself swiftly, the Director said hurriedly, “Now we need to go for an ultrasound scan, and then come back to measure blood pressure and that’s it for the day. I’ll take you there now.”
“Okay, thank you.” Rhee replied.
Lying in the examination room, Jian Qing felt somewhat emotional.
The last time she had been in a place like this was with Xiya. Now it was her turn, and she felt an inexplicable nervousness.
Quan Jingwu stretched out his hand to help her lift her sweater, exposing her flat stomach to the air. Jian Qing felt a bit cold.
“Relax, there’s no need to be anxious,” Weng Ya said reassuringly from the side.
Rhee echoed, “Yes, Little Qingqing, in a little while you’ll be able to see the baby. There’s nothing to worry about.”
Jian Qing nodded, holding Quan Jingwu’s hand, her eyes meeting his deep gaze. The corners of her lips lifted slightly.
Everyone was focused on the screen of the ultrasound machine. Rhee had her hands tightly clenched and seemed more nervous than Jian Qing, as if she were the pregnant one.
Without uttering a word, Rhee and Weng Ya stared at the screen, frozen.
Then, the two women wore ecstatic smiles, leaving Jian Qing and Quan Jingwu confused.

“This is such great news. It’s simply fantastic.”
The Director jumped slightly at Rhee’s laughter. She understood their reactions, having seen families of other pregnant women react in similar ways.
“Mom, what’s going on?” Jian Qing looked puzzled, her beautiful face full of curiosity as she glanced at the ultrasound screen. She didn’t understand what she was seeing.
She had come with Xiya when the latter was pregnant and further along. She had been able to understand a little bit then. Now, with her own stomach carrying a small baby, she, as a prospective mother, was even less able to understand what the machine’s readings meant.
But it must be good news, given how delighted her mother-in-law and third aunt looked.
Rhee skipped forward, laughing gleefully. “Little Qingqing, look, there are two babies, two babies!” she said, pointing at the ultrasound screen and holding up two fingers.
Hearing this, Jian Qing and Quan Jingwu looked at each other in shock.

“Mom, are you sure?” Jian Qing said, momentarily taken aback, her face showing a rare vacant expression.

Rhee nodded her head. The corners of her eyes shone with unshed tears of joy: “Of course it’s true. If you don’t believe me, ask the Director.”
Jian Qing and Quan Jingwu turned their eyes towards the Director, waiting for her confirmation.
Feeling the pressure under their intense gaze, the Director nodded with a smile, “Indeed, there are two babies. Look, these are your babies.”
Following the Director’s pointing at the ultrasound images on the screen, Jian Qing and Quan Jingwu looked at the tiny beans cuddled next to each other.
Although they didn’t fully understand, seeing the two little beans cuddling together on the screen, both Quan Jingwu and Jian Qing felt a surge of indescribable emotion and joy.
Jian Qing looked at Quan Jingwu and smiled, her eyes curving, and her voice slightly nasal: “Xiaojing, two babies!”
She had never thought she would be carrying twins. She had always assumed there was just one baby in her belly. Now, she was surprised by this tremendous blessing.
Quan Jingwu’s lips curled upward as he tried to conceal his trembling hands, revealing his inner excitement. He bent down to her, touching his forehead to hers.
“Yes, two babies, our babies.” His voice was deep and extremely gentle.
Jian Qing’s lips widened into a smile, reflecting a captivating gleam in her eyes.
“Xiaojing, I’m so happy.” Her voice was soft, yet it melted his heart.
Rhee and Weng Ya watched them from the side, their faces filled with joyful smiles.
They hadn’t expected such great news from this visit today. They could already imagine how overjoyed their family would be once they found out.
“Rhee, congratulations, you’re now the grandmother of two children!” Weng Ya teased.
With her eyes squinted in joy, Rhee couldn’t contain her laughter: “Ha ha, I’m now the grandmother of two children, yay.”
She held up two fingers, completely dropping her usual composure and dignity, and laughed like a child.
Just thinking about the time in the future when she would be leading one delicate, lovely little grandchild in each hand made her heart melt.
“Mrs. Quan, here are your pictures.” The Director handed the freshly printed pictures to Jian Qing.
Quan Jingwu reached out to receive them, but before he could examine them, Rhee snatched them away.
