Subject 42 ran across the corridor quickest his feet would carry him. Finally, a chance had presented to leave this hell-hole and he couldn’t wait to get the fuck out of here.
And he would have made it out by now too, if it weren’t for all these morons that inhabited this facility with him.
As 42 moved past another busy lift towards the stairs, he found another one of theosev three-digits there.
He had a wooden rod-like object, likely a leg he tore off of some chair, which he yanked towards him moving foward.
Without breaking his momentum, 42 used the adjacent wall to jump upwards and slammed his knee onto the assailant’s face.
Without a pause 42 pulled out a already bloodied knife and cleanly slit his throat.
"How have these many idiots managed to survived here this long with such skills"
He moved down the stairs, finally reaching the ground floor and bolted towards the exit.
He noticed many inmates running towards the exit similarly, occasionally a few tried to sabotage some other but they were few and far in between.
’I just don’t understand these idiots. Is petty revenge more appealing to you right now than escape for f**k’s sake.’
He quickly waded through the occasional fights and the running inmates.
After quite some time a brightly lit lobby with the main entrance came into view. Finally, he would be free from the shackles of this accursed place and its so-called researchers.
Just a teeny tiny problem though. It seemed some assbuggers were still remaining, manning the gate for some reason.
It was a burly man, much larger than all of the other inmates of the facility. It was the only single digit still alive in the facility.
’God damn it. Don’t tell me this guy also has peanut for brains.’
As soon as he entered he noticed another thing about the lobby. It was eerily quiet. He had seen a few individuals entering before him. None came into view even though 06 was still at the end of the closed door.
He couldn’t spend too much time on it, however, he had to get out of here somehow.
42 steeled himself for 06 without slowing down. He just hoped he had enough force to just knock this truck over.
As their distance shrunk some 20 meters, an object in the hands of 06 came into his view.
’Laser gun?!??? How did he get that?’
42 looked at it and realised he had no hope of missing it. His momentum that he was counting on would now be his bane.
As soon as he thought this he tried to move away but 06 had lifted up his gun towards him. All it needed was a click to spell his death.
Or so he thought when suddenly a shadow jumped from his side and tackled him, throwing both of them towards a sofa at the other side positioned linearly between them and 06.
42 grimaced from the pain but forced himself up through sheer will and adrenaline. He looked at the perpetrator that saved his life sprawled at his side.
He grimaced from their face too.
’Why does it have to be her for devil’s sake’
13 also collected herself up somehow and immediately checked up on 42.
"Stop shouting! Yes I am."
"Thank the devil." 13 sighed audibly with an expression that seemed like she had saved the world or something.
42 rolled his eyes and looked towards the exit. 06 did not make a move after he moved away, just silently took his hand down and gun locked.
He didn’t follow. He didn’t even look towards his hiding place, if it could even be called that.
’God fucking damn these broken rabid beasts that can’t look beyond their cage and blood.’
42 was fuming at the sight of exit being so close yet so far because some people couldn’t resist immediately spiralling into self destruction at the cost of everybody the moment they were let out of the mouse cage.
He was beginning to think this was all intentional. That this was but another way to weed out weaker riff-raffs.
"How do we get out of here?" he asked rhetorically more out of frustration than genuine curiosity.
"Oh. Oh. 17 and 18 went back towards the wet lab to look for something to handle him." chriped 13 looking to relieve his worries.
"Those guys went back there again? Wow they sure are brave huh..." 42 said genuine bewilderment at them going back into the lion’s den. Even if the lions were absent.
"So we can only wait till then.."
’damn it to hell’ he slumped down against the back of the sofa with a defeated look.
13 was looking at his face from the moment he had landed here... probably, continued at it with a puppy-eyed expression.
’aughhhhh’ 42 violently rolled his eyes, no longer able to ignore it.
"Thanks thirteen. How have you been?" He uttered out with a palm on his face.
"I have been great, fourty-two!" She beamed after the shout that cringed the living shit out of 42.
The silence of the lobby and the isolation made it all the more unbearable.
’subject 42. Those bastards with their memory erasing tools. I don’t even remember my name to cry out loud. I’m naming myself something better the moment I get out.’
While he was idling behind the sofa many inmates had tried to barge through the exit but all of them laid flat just a few metres from 06.
All it took was one shot for them to get out of their misery. Perhaps it was a relief either way. They were time bombs for the outside world anyway. In a sense 06 was helping the society, quite unlike literally his life so far.

As he thought this he noticed 17, 18 along with a few individuals finally made it back. It seemed they hadn’t run out of luck for now.
"Is that... is that the coat of those mad demons they are holding up like that there?" he blurted out seeing the various two digits holding up a white coat of the lab scientists, draped over some sort of wooden object as shields.
But to his utter disbelief, as well as relief, when the laser was thrown on the coats shielding the inmates moving forward in perfect sync it did not pierce through.
Without missing a beat 42 joined the trail following 18 holding up the body sized shields.
As 06 tried again and again only to get failure as the distance shrunk to a few meters he suddenly dropped the gun and brought something out of coat pocket.
It was a grenade like object which he unlocked and threw on the ground. The object ejected a translucent smoke out of that quickly reached all of the room.
42 looked towards the object, another shiny object in 06 hands and immediately tried to jump out the smoke region.
’Don’t take me with you fu-’
Alas, 06 ignited his lighter and the whole lobby went up with a big blast and a mushroom cloud.
