The blood they sucked went into the formation in the fur coat. Then the life energy was used to activate the core of the fur coat. Once activated, the fur coat came alive.
That was the best that Arthur could describe it. It felt as if he was carrying a wolf on his back. The fur coat was getting heavier as it drained his life energy.
So he was facing both physical stress from the heavy armament on his back as well as the stress caused by the severe blood loss. This is why Elder Storm Hawk asked him to reach the fourth mortal coil before trying it.
If he didn't have a strong body, he would collapse now due to the combined stress. But he had a strong body and a lot of life energy, so he was able to withstand the stress.

Now that he has a lightning mark in his mind, he can finally control the lightning produced by the fur coat and let it fuse with his body. This marked the completion of the activation of the Divine Lightning Armament.
