The hand holding Lu Wanwan’s phone heated up.
“Did you hear me?” the man asked, following up when he received no response after a moment.
She was taken aback. Was Gu Annan waiting for her to reply?
“I heard you, I’ll be right there,” she hurriedly said.
“Make it quick,” his tone returned to normal.
Lu Wanwan hung up, but her heart was still not at ease.
What was wrong? Where had the cold and aloof Gu Annan, who used to hang up right after speaking, gone?
It was the first time she asked for leave so eagerly and even failed to notice that the chief editor had miraculously not asked any further questions about it.
Just as she entered the elevator, Yi Cheng’s voice hurriedly reached her from behind, “Wait up.”
“Yi Cheng?” Lu Wanwan quickly pressed the elevator button to hold the door open for him.
The elevator was particularly crowded due to the rush hour at the end of the workday.
“Leaving work so early today?”
Lu Wanwan smiled and said, “Yes, I’ve got something to take care of, I’ve already informed the chief editor.”
Yi Cheng seemed as though he wanted to say something, opened his mouth but said nothing, and just nodded in the end.

Finally, they reached the ground floor and squeezed out of the elevator.
“I need to cover a news story, just got the call,” Yi Cheng said as he walked. “Shall I give you a ride? I’m about to take the company car, I can drop you at school on the way.”
“No need,” she waved her hand, “I’ve got plans with a friend, you go on.”
Yi Cheng suddenly smiled, “What friend?”
“Ah?” Lu Wanwan felt that there was something odd about the way he said that.
Seeing her bewildered face, Yi Cheng quickly added, “Nothing, just asking. Where are you meeting your friend? I can drop you off; it’s not much trouble.”
“He’s already on his way here; you really don’t need to take me.”
The weirdness in that tone vanished, and Lu Wanwan thought she must be overthinking it.
As the two of them left the building together, Yi Cheng stayed by her side, which made her a bit anxious.
After all, the people in the company could recognize Gu Annan’s license plate. Even though the incident from last time remained unresolved due to a lack of evidence, everyone was sensitive to these matters.
“Yi Cheng, aren’t you going to the parking lot?”
Yi Cheng casually pointed ahead and laughed, “Parked the car outside today.”
Lu Wanwan was praying not to be near Gu Annan’s car when he suddenly said, “Don’t move.”
Before she could react, his hand lightly touched her, causing her to flinch back in surprise.
