When he heard her words, he turned his head, his deep eyes smiling. His cool voice slowly began, “My grandfather said, if I don’t want to marry, he can pretend to forget about it.”
Lu Wanwan felt a flutter of excitement, and her eyes seemed to light up.
“What a coincidence, my grandmother said something similar.”
The smile at the corner of Gu Annan’s mouth stiffened slightly.
“My grandmother said, no one takes these old matters seriously, and she can mention it to no one. If both of them can pretend to forget, then it doesn’t count, right?”
Then Lu Wanwan saw him cast a fierce glance at her and left with a dark face.
“Ah.” She hugged a pillow and turned over, her face still wearing a sweet smile.
What she meant to say was that they could forget about this old-fashioned arranged marriage; their engagement wasn’t based on such nonsensical reasons anyway.
After thinking for a while, suddenly finding herself unable to sleep, she dragged her tired body up, threw on some clothes, and decided to head to the hospital early.
Just as she was leaving her room, she saw Gu Annan placing a few bags on the dining table.
Upon hearing her come out, he didn’t turn around but, after placing the bags down, prepared to leave.
“What’s that? It smells delicious,” Lu Wanwan said, running out barefoot.
Gu Annan was initially annoyed by her previous words and didn’t want to pay attention.
But after glancing at the soles of her feet, he couldn’t help himself but stride over and scoop her up in his arms.
“Gu Annan, what are you doing? Put me down!”
Seeing that he was carrying her to the bedroom, she whimpered, “You brute.”
After throwing her onto the bed, he shot her a cold glance, then straightened the slightly creased shirt he wore, “Put on some shoes before coming out.”
It’s getting colder these days; the floor is too chilly.
Lu Wanwan sat on the edge of the bed, pulled her legs up, and was about to speak, but as she looked up and saw him looking down at her, he slowly said, “Don’t worry, I will ‘be a brute’ again tonight!”
She pouted, looking straight into Gu Annan’s direct gaze, and pointed out, “Hey, one of your buttons is loose.”
He looked down to check, then shifted his gaze to her, waiting motionlessly.
Lu Wanwan immediately stood up and buttoned it for him.
His warm breath cascaded down from above, and even through his shirt, her fingers could feel his warmth.
The two were extremely close; with her looking up and his looking down, their lips could easily meet.
Her heartbeat surged rapidly, feeling that he might kiss her any moment, and deep inside, she was somewhat hoping for it.
“Are you going to blush and button that all evening?” Gu Annan raised an eyebrow, his voice slightly hoarse, which added a notably rich texture, “Or do you find it easier to unbutton?”
“…” She paused, glaring at him angrily before quickly finishing with his buttons.
As she was about to withdraw her hand, he quickly caught it.
A kiss landed gently on her lips like a dragonfly skimming the water–shallow but sending a mild shiver across her heart.
“Zhao Chen just delivered breakfast, it’s on the table and still warm. You can eat now, or heat it later if you prefer to sleep,” he instructed, staring at the smiling woman before him, “If you’re not at the hospital by noon, come have lunch at my office.”
She found him a bit nagging and kept nodding.
Gu Annan felt like he was seeing her at 16 again, patiently explaining where she had failed on a test while she didn’t listen at all, just nodding and repeatedly saying she knew, leaving him at a loss for how to react to her.
Lu Wanwan’s chin was suddenly caught, and his voice deepened, “What did I just say?”
