The response was a loud door slam.
Gu Annan lay in the bathtub, which was quite large. Even for someone like him, there was plenty of space to sit or lie down alone.
“Lu Wanwan, do you need me to count to three?” His voice wasn’t too loud or too soft, and it echoed around the bathroom, unintentionally adding a seductive charm.
The person hesitating outside finally pushed the door open.
She had already removed her clothes but stood hesitating at the bathroom doorway for a moment.
She didn’t know why Gu Annan asked her in or what the consequences of “own consequences” were.
However, she could anticipate one of his reasons.

Lu Wanwan stood far from the bathtub, observing.

The bathtub big enough to be a small hot spring pool was elevated on a step. He lay back with his head raised, seemingly in clear view of the fine water droplets on his face.
Gu Annan didn’t open his eyes, but spoke up, “Come here, I didn’t ask you to stand by the doorway. Since you don’t have the energy to do anything else but have enough strength to slowly take a bath…”
“You’re not expecting me to help you bathe, are you?”
She couldn’t finish the words “don’t dream about it” before she saw Gu Annan turn his head.
His deep, dark eyes stared at her, and she snapped, “Gu Annan, don’t get ahead of yourself! It’s one thing to ensnare me, but don’t expect to enslave me by exploiting my feelings of guilt!”
If he didn’t take her words to heart, she would have quietly offered him some modest compensation and thought of ways to minimize the incident’s impact on the Gu family.
But since he was manipulating her with such excuses, naturally, she wouldn’t comply.
Her rebellious streak surged forth. Surely he couldn’t force her to personally serve him?
She might let other things slide, but helping him bathe was out of the question…

“Isn’t that a bit shameless, considering what you had promised earlier?” Lu Wanwan’s voice trembled slightly.
“I did make a promise, but I never said it would be free of charge,” Gu Annan responded, continuing to lay back with his eyes closed, shamelessly adding, “You could consider it.”
Lu Wanwan drummed her fingers, unsure if it was his typically arrogant demeanor, but she couldn’t feel like he was joking.
After a long pause, she squeezed out, “Isn’t that inappropriate? We are married after all, and you’re quibbling so much…”
His lips curved slightly, aware now that being married meant he shouldn’t quibble so much?
“Besides, look, my problems are your problems. So, resolving your own issues, how can you expect me to do it for a fee?” Lu Wanwan didn’t know what convoluted reasoning led her to this excuse.
She felt she was becoming nearly as shameless as him in making up excuses.
“So you mean, help me wash for free?”
