Over the past two years, she had exhausted her wits just to appear before him a few more times, and she thought that even this should be enough to set her apart from other women.
Plus, with Grandma’s request, and his never having explicitly denied it, she believed that no matter how long it took, she would eventually become his wife.
When she first learned of Lu Wanwan’s return, she didn’t lack a sense of alarm.
But thinking of what Lu Wanwan had done in the past, she was sure that Gu Annan must mostly hate her.
Who would have known, he could actually let bygones be bygones so easily.
What exactly was he thinking, or was it because, in his heart, there had always been only that one woman?
"Yunsi, stop talking," Shuman said softly, stopping her.
Some things are best left unsaid at this point; there’s no need to discuss the rest in front of outsiders.
The manager looked at these two women, somewhat puzzled about what they were planning to do.
If they made a big scene, would Mr. Gu withdraw his investment because of this legal wife?
The manager’s mind was in turmoil.
Shuman calmly took out a checkbook from her bag worth over a hundred thousand.
"This is a check for five hundred thousand," Shuman said after filling it out, handing the check to the manager. "You just mentioned a branch, I suppose they’ll transfer you there eventually, right?"
The manager’s eyes went wide, and he just nodded.
"Very good," Shuman said, unhurriedly. "Don’t worry, I don’t have any ulterior motives. I just want to know a bit more."
As she spoke, she wrote down a number on a piece of paper.
"This is my private number. When she dines in your restaurant, please observe her and let me know if you find out anything," Shuman said with a bitter smile. "It’s kind of a joke, isn’t it? Even though my fiancé is doing this, I still can’t say anything publicly."
The manager immediately looked indignant, "What are you saying? It is only right for me to help with this. The women these days, I don’t know what they’re thinking, just trying to be mistresses to rich men. Ah, Miss Shu, you’ve really been wronged. Rest assured, if you ever need evidence of Mr. Gu’s infidelity, I’ll provide whatever I can find."
"It’s not about her and my fiancé; she may come alone sometimes, or with friends. Just pay more attention. This five hundred thousand is a sign of my sincerity, and I will not treat you unfairly in the future."
Upon hearing there might be more to come in the future, the manager threw all scruples to the winds, eager to show his loyalty.
Suddenly, he remembered the two children that woman had brought with her.
So, while tucking the check into his pocket, he said, "I just remembered something. I didn’t see it very clearly, but I heard from the staff. After Mr. Gu left, that woman wasn’t alone; two children came to find her."
"Children?" Shuman’s eyebrows knitted together.
"Yeah, I only saw a back view. I’ll get the waiter who handled it earlier to come in and tell you about it," the manager said, before going to bring that waiter in to repeat what had happened.
Gu Yunsi listened with her mouth agape, and after thinking it through, she happily exclaimed, "Cousin Shuman, so she already has children."
The manager said, "Yeah, she already has kids and still wants to be a kept mistress. It’s shameless; how is that setting an example for her children?"
Shuman’s frown deepened at the mention of the two children calling Lu Wanwan ’Mommy,’ who looked to be about four or five years old, yet completely unaware of Gu Annan.
Did Lu Wanwan get married in the United States, or was it a case of having children out of wedlock?
